By 1990, rock in general had re-entered a protracted aesthetic slump. The bright moments were increasingly fewer and farther between. But the one song that really, really stood out in the summer of 1990 was this sublime example of relentless optimism. Easily the best single of that year and an instant classic. Job over the top well done, Professor Wallinger.
