Sympathy is not "you want a sandwich?" Its more like "poor you, aww, look at that." And then not listening to you, ignoring you or giving you advice

Sympathy =im sorry you are going through this. Empathy= im so sorry you are going through this, I feel your hurt and I wish you weren't going through this. Im here for you.
Im an Empath. I know very well how it goes. Its ok too. I feel the pain when someone hurts themselves. Thats a real empath. I also feel broken hearts. And I know immediately if ive hurt someones feelings which I try so hard not to do. But once in a while it happens and then I beat myself up for saying or doing whatever I did. Empathy can be mentally painful.

Can someone help me apply this to one of my friends feeling like she’s ugly but she’s genuinely one of the most gorgeous people I’ve met? I want to actually help and not just say “well I think your gorgeous”

I was listening to an audiobook while working today and she talks about empathy in the book. Her voice and the way she talked, a light bulb went off and i thought " NO WAY!" Pulled this video up -confirmed. Book I'm listening to : Dare to Lead By Brene Brown.

Empathy is a Path you seee coming along with someone that needs you to listen and understand.

but i do it to myself, i alwayse saying to myself " at leaset ".... what else i can say ? sometimes you can do nothing... you can be sympathetic but this thoughs and people who always complain dont stop if you trying to be sympathetic

I’d rather be sympathetic & help them than be empathetic & gain negative energies in my aura from the energy exchange/ baggage of other!

This does not describe empathy. This describes responses people give. You could program a robot to communicate what would have been an empathetic message.
