ОтветитьI haven't spent a lot of time in Oakdale, but once lived nearby in Waterford - actually a few miles east of Waterford on Hazeldean Rd, where Tim Bell rd ends. I used to enjoy visiting the Oakdale Hershey Factory and Visitor's Center when they were there. The Hershey Kiss streetlights outside the factory were iconic. Loved the then and now photos. See you next time.

Love and blessings Larry June and laurie
ОтветитьI'm going there Wednesday. Nice
ОтветитьI SAW YOU WHEN THERE MY HOME!
ОтветитьTo me it’s sad things have to change so much. The only thing I saw that was the same was the church.
ОтветитьMy grandparents moved to Oakdale in 1958 when I was 4 from LA. My grandpa worked for SP railroad. I stayed summers with them until we moved there in 1963 (the day Kennedy was shot) on “E” street down from Cloverland school.
I remember playing in the park next to the train station (now museum) waiting to pick him up, he would be gone for 3 days at a time.
I consider Oakdale as my home town.
I have some northern California suggestions for possible story items. My Great Grand Aunt Annie Margaret Thomas son Shelton Chubbuck lived to be 3 months short of 101, dying when I was 4. I remember her very vividly and she lived a very interesting life. Her last husband was James Marquis Chubbuck, who served as Chico Constable, Butte County Sheriff, and was locally known as Marshall Chubbuck. He owned a flour mill in Durham. Her first husband, John Shelton was one of the Glenn County Sheltons. They had 3 children, one of whom died as a baby and Annie outlived all 3 of her sons. She lived in SF for many years and she adored me at 3 and 4 years old. Margaret as a name runs through our family and I am Patricia Margaret.
Another local family of mine is the Shearers. Joseph Emerson Shearer was my Great Great Grandfather and he owned the first brick home in Chico along with a livery stable.
My final family of local importance are the Thomassons. My Mother and Aunt Margaret were the first twins born in Enloe Hospital in 1914. The family came across the country from Scales Mound, Illinois to Chico, California by ox team in 1853. My Great Grandfather, George Washington Thomasson built a home in 1895. The Thomasson family first raised prunes which were hugely popular in the late 1800s and early 1900s. My Great Grandfather planted some of the first almond orchards in California.
I could go on and on. I love history and genealogy and have tons of stories. Let me know if any of these interest you. Thanks! I love your cemetery crawls. My now adult kids still cringe when I remind them of our visit to all 13 Virginia City Cemeteries in search of my Great Great Grandfather, Edward Cooper who was killed in the late 1861 fire in the Gould and Curry mine. Turns out he is buried down the hill in Silver City!

ОтветитьAnother fantastic video! I didn't need another reason to love your channel, but you gave me one in finding out we went to the same high school 🙂 The then/now comparison is the best I've ever seen, and adds such good perspective of Oakdale's history. The Citizens Cemetery is often overlooked as part of Oakdale's history. Thanks for bringing this into the conversation! If you ever do a history of the candy industry in Oakdale, that would be awesome.
ОтветитьThanks for highlighting the Oakdale Citizens Cemetery.
ОтветитьThanks for highlighting the Oakdale Citizens Cemetery. Cindy McAnally Webb
ОтветитьJoe went to Downey.
ОтветитьI was born here and still live here😊 there was a fire in downtown so the buildings have changed on the block where the clock is. My children and grandchildren were born here.
ОтветитьThose photo overlays are so cool!
ОтветитьWow! Excellent video!
ОтветитьGreat video
ОтветитьBelievable time doesn't stop the before and after photos were awesome.
ОтветитьThanks for pics at the end.
ОтветитьI first moved to Oakdale in 1962 it sure has changed over all the years.
ОтветитьGood show. Really like the comparison photos from the and now. Good job.
ОтветитьLove this video comparing the now vs the then. I am a history nut! Does Oakland have any zoning laws or has it been declared a historic district? I ask because I noticed although in May pictures the type of business have changed but thankfully the buildings have had no major exterior changes. Unlike other cities that destroy Oakland seems to preserve! Thanks. Can you do more videos like this one comparing then& now! Riva from Delaware
ОтветитьSorry, auto correct just changed your location from Oakdale to Oakland 😢
ОтветитьThank you so much for your videos. I really enjoy all the research you do. Isn’t sad what has happened to our towns. I wonder if it is really progress. Thanks again.
ОтветитьI drove through Oakdale over a year ago to attend the Civil War Reenactment at Knights Ferry.
ОтветитьI've saw one of those woodmen of the world stumps before local. Really nice and detailed never heard of them before. Too much history is lost on younger generations. Thanks for the history lessons!
ОтветитьI was born in the old Oakdale hospital in the 50's and attended Oakdale High School. I remember some of these old buildings, and it brings back so many memories. TY for producing this!
ОтветитьThs Jeff for all the history I too love history I was born ibn Modesto 81 yrS ago and lived in Ceres, Oakdale , Turlock and others in Stanislaus county. Have you done a video on the Mark Ulrich murder in Oakdale in 1967 by Archie Fain . Mark Ulrich was my husbands cousin. My husband {Bud} was raised in Knights Ferry and Oakdale.
