I have been trying to figure out how to cut bottom anvils for an English wheel on my lathe for ages. The videos i have watched previously have left me scratching my head but this was so simple and clear. The light has come on in my head and i shall create with confidence. Thanks Karl! Great design for the circle cutter. You do fantastic work, your instructions are clear, and you make it look easy.
The circle cutter sure makes it easy to cut ends for levers, and as you have shown, for making the heads for the shaping hammers.
I just about had a heart attack, when I saw where your dial indicator was resting well inside the arc of the jaws of the lathe chuck. I wasn't able to breathe until you swung it back out of the way.

Thanks for sharing, if you build tools they will work. The lathe was the first machine tool and all others were probably made on a lathe . A must if you work with metal.

Hi Karl. You need to break the bad habit you have of leaving the chuck key in the chuck on your lathe. Many serious injuries have been caused by flying chuck keys when the lathe is started. When I started my Fitting & Machining apprenticeship (long time ago) the supervisor would kick my arse if I did this. PLEASE, DO NOT LEAVE THE CHUCK KEY IN THE CHUCK! Be safe! Cheers From Australia. It looks great. But am I misunderstanding or wouldnt it have also done inside radius(dishing forms) if the handle hadn't been permanently mounted? It seems a square shank on top and a breaker bar would have allowed it to do outside radius like is currently does, or flip the tool and cut concave shapes for press or hammer forms or speed hole dies.

Even tho I'm a car guy, I also have a good old Lablond lathe. I just wish I had a Bridgepport, and ironically, I'm from the same town they were built. I even remember where their factory was when I was a kid. I just need some room.

Im halfway through building a shed at the moment, lathe under cover outside, mates possibly selling me his mill, super pumped to get back to making stuff!
Video is top quality as always, no faff, no waffle, just to it and a great mix of getting by and using the right tool for the job.
Really appreciate it.
There isn't a huge custom scene (to my taste) where i am so i hope to build a few bikes and change that if i can!
