When you PiShrink or notice warning like one below runs manually the filesystems check as the old style does not work and you cant run on a mounted fs.
Example:
"rootfs: Inode 254569 extent tree (at level 1) could be shorter. IGNORED"

Background:
With old sysvinit and Upstart, you could force a disk check on next reboot using a simple
command sudo touch /forcefsck which also integrated on the PlayBox Toolkit.
It will show a root account lock or need to press enter to continue to boot OS.
But that's no longer the case, as most Linux distros using systemd as Raspi-OS
