I am boosted on my 3.7. No issues and make 600 whp. So it takes boost just fine.

You are really a great information source for a guy who got tired of his GT500(still in garage), and bought a 09 G37 Journey to tinker with. I'm 2nd owner, and don't wanna change this car, or spend unnecessary upgrade money. So far Stillen catback, Z1 CAI, and going to Dynosty in Louisville, KY next month. (I live in KY). Old thread, I know...

35HR or 37VHR block with 35HR heads is where it’s at, there’s a N/A 600hp VQ 4.2 stroker with that combo.

Why do 37VHR hesitate in initial acceleration VS 35HR? I owned an I35 and an FX35 and now I own a QX50 with the 37VHR and it’s very noticeable. Thanks!

I know this video is old and there is probably an answer to my question somewhere but it doesnt hurt to ask this question as often as possible. I have an 06 350z enthusiast with the rev up de motor. If i plan to do only minor n/a upgraades and keep up with maintenance, do i really need to worry about my car blowing up? I want to push the performance of this car but I'm scared to because i see it all the time that my engine i garbage, cant hold power, blah blah blah. I have 3 inch y pipe open back to a greddy single, short ram intake and plenum spacer. Do i need to worry about my car detonating with minor upgrades if i push it to redline for extended periods of time? Its a drift build so redline is unavoidable.

I've built a few of these, right now I've got an 07 HR with a vhr rotating assembly. In my opinion the rods look the same as far a design but with the vhr being shorter I'm thinking that's why they hold up to more boost. It's not much though, HRs usually break if exceeding 500 lbft at the wheels, vhr will hold about 50 lbft more, both in stock form. Torque is the amount of force exerted and generally is what needs to be limited on stock rods. Nice video👍🏼

I love my vq37vhr, coming from the Acura TL Type-S the difference in speed is most definitely there, and railroad drive compared to front wheel drive is a whole lot more fun among having two more years to being on but other than that I kind of wish I got the manual but I do have a manual truck so kind of not missing having to shift gears all the time in the daily driver.

The best thing to do with an HR is combined the two! VHR bottom end with stronger rods and pistons and HR heads with cams, add some boost and you have an animal of an engine!

They are the same rods. The same forged rods just diff height.

The heads on the VHR are not superior they suck and the HR is 10.5:1 / 10.6:1 and the VHR is 11:1.

But NISMO drops the VHR heads and slaps HR heads on the VHR block. Best of both worlds.

HR is the shit, the VHR is an HR with stupid heads thats why Nissan takes the heads off the HR and slaps them on the VHR. It was all for fuel economy on the heads and they made no difference. Not to mention barely any aftermarket support for the VHR’s intake cams.

I use regular gas in my 2007 G35. I've had no power or knocking issues. I've learned that if the compression ratio is more than 10.5:1, you should fill up with premium. After all the years I've owned my G35, I have always filled up with regular. 156,000 miles later my car runs like new, uses one third quart oil after 3000 miles, some of which seeps out of the original
valve cover gaskets. My G35 is VERY fast, reliable and I love my blue 4 door sports sedan.

You really know your stuff man. Great video. Btw, in the real world, there's not been much of an improvement with the extra displacement of the G37. Sadly, the added weight/refinement offset the HP gains. If you wanted a lighter and more agile car, the G35 with the HR is probably better.

I love racing G37's in my G35xS.... (2008)

I usually always win. That 7 speed transmission is supposed to be superior to my 5 speed. (I guess the Intake, Exhaust, & other small mods add up. My G35 is FAST! Just did the Waterpump & Gallery Gaskets also, so she's ready to run for a while!)

Can you put the VQ37VHR crank in a VQ35HR and have a custom piston made with a higher pin height and end up with a VQ35HR stroker? Or alternatively, just swap out the VQ35HR short block for a VQ37VHR and achieve the same thing.
