MOSTELY decline red meat.
Maybe chicken?
As a child in the UK, I used to love Toad in the Hole.
ОтветитьThere's a good book about the border reivers, "The Steel Bonnets" by George MacDonald Fraser
ОтветитьYour brother did NOT redeem himself.
ОтветитьYou should do something on contemporary Scots cuisine. Deep Fried Mars Bar with heroin seasoning, washed down with Irn Bru.
ОтветитьThis was absolutely fascinating
ОтветитьLate comment but only just found this episode. I accidentally used Self Raising flour for the batter which refused to rise. Ever since, my family have called this dish "frog in a bog". Also I recommend "Lords and Ladies" by the late, sorely missed Terry Pratchett which is all about elves and fairies .And a really good read.
ОтветитьI’m a Campbell and my dad always called toast with egg in the middle a toad in the hole-guess that’s just part of leaving Scotland 😆🤗 thanks for this three year old movie really sent me back to my dad ❤
Ответить😮 I always thought Toad-in-the-hole was just an alternate name for Eggy-in-the-basket
ОтветитьThe original spelling was MacSwell. 😁
ОтветитьA fantasy Yorkshire pudding.
ОтветитьSo far so fast. Have we Max? Wow has it on this dang fangled interwebs the earth is flat. Chem trails... Well elf shot in the sky.
ОтветитьAnother video you stated you Irish heritage. Mothers side??
ОтветитьToad in the hole is one of my fav meals...have it at least once a fortnight...modern days u should put the batter in the fridge for about a hr before putting in the oil and it makes the batter rise a lot better
ОтветитьToad in “A”hole lmao
You have so much personality Max ❤️ You are phenomenal at accents and different voices. So entertaining and funny. Thank you for all you do to produce edit and film these videos. They’re greatly appreciated 👍🏼❤️
Do one Yorkshire pudding if not already done. The first thing I cooked at age 8. My grandmothers recipe
ОтветитьLeft over Yorkshire pudding (the batter in this dish) is lovely eaten cold the next day, spread with jam/jelly...left overs are rare though!
ОтветитьSo your Family are Borderers like me then
ОтветитьToad in the hole is English though
ОтветитьOne of my best dishes. The secret is Lard and very good quality sausage
ОтветитьNeeds gravy!
ОтветитьThank you for the metric measurements as well as the USA measurements.
ОтветитьAll great cooking is peasant cooking but the saddest is English Peasant cooking.
ОтветитьLol cattle rustler could you see yourself tryin to go steal cows in ancient times
ОтветитьToad in ahole is what I tried to tell my gf when I we were teenagers.
ОтветитьWhy do you go out of your way to accuse Isabel of mental illness instead of simply believeing she was as witch?
ОтветитьRaiders? Oh against the English. Aye. Good man.
ОтветитьNever heard of elfshot! You learn something new everyday
ОтветитьEver since watching dad's army where this was mentioned, I've always wondered what this was!
ОтветитьRequest:
Ernest Hemingway’s Burger
(Real thing with detailed prose to back it up!)
I love Robert The Bruce , even though the spiders are mythical he was amazing. Sorry I just always notice when someone randomly mentions him
ОтветитьI'm sorry, I can't, the fake accent is too bad. I tried.
ОтветитьMax's ancestors : raiding settlements, looting and plundering across borders.
Max today : hard tack go clack clack
Max: And even after rival clans and border raiders were no longer a major concern, there was a far more sinister enemy of the cow lurking in the green pastures of Scotland.
Me: Disease?
Max: ELVES.
Me: ...OK, didn't see that one coming.
Visiting Scotland and visited Urquhart castle only two days ago .
ОтветитьI knew it...I knew it...whisky would come into play!
ОтветитьLove, love, love this dish! I love that the name "toad in the hole" (as opposed to "toad in a hole") suggests that there's a correct hole for the toad to go into. Just any old hole won't do and it's theoretically possible for the toad to be in the wrong hole. Mind you, the hole itself is, I suppose, shaped by the batter as it fits itself to the toad and clings as things heat up, thus making itself into the ideal hole for the situation. I must say I think steak's a fancy bit of meat for the dish, though tender rump may well suit perfectly and deliciously and one of these days I'll give it a try.
ОтветитьI'm not going to take guff about the names of foods from the country who eats a snack called Ants On A Log.
Ответить"Scottish food... Known for it's spice." 😀
ОтветитьRump steak? Rumple-STEAK-skin
ОтветитьRulers of the Fae folk; King Oberon and Queen Titaina, right?
ОтветитьToad-in-a-hole 😋
Toad-in-a-a-hole 🙈
Sausage. That's how my wee Scottish maw made it. Steak, just didn't happen in oor wee, poor hoose.
Reivers... sounds like reevers😬
I used to work in a posh hotel in Glasgow years ago . One time the chef decided to show off and made Toad in the hole with frogs legs and black truffle with gravy . Don't know what was in the gravy but it had flakes of gold leaf in it . The big boss who it was made for didn't touch it and instead sent out for fish and chips lol .
ОтветитьElf shot is very real. As real as hags or elves themselves.
ОтветитьThis is one of my favorite childhood meals. Thanks for doing it justice.
ОтветитьLots of Rieving went on. My ancestors were pirates too and raided Mann!
