Hello friend, I have a question, I think in context.
I have a Seagate Barracuda ES HDD, (3 platters) but I removed the internal parts, leaving only the Motor and the Logic Board (control) because I would like to use it for a Mini Sander but, after removing just the needle assembly, the Motor does not run (before it was running normally). I've tried various ways, including connecting pins 2-6 and 3-5 with a jumper, but there's no way to get it to run. Could it be that this type of HD only works with the needle assembly in place? Please let me know if you have any tips on this; Thank you.

To see the drive on windows when windows does not have the software to recognize a disk open Disk Management (right-click (or long-press) the Start button and select Disk Management.)

My external Seagate 3TB HD Drive that worked for years has been working fine until today a few hours ago when it suddenly couldn’t be detected anymore and it got worried.

PC still works but if the non-detected HD Drive is still plugged in my PC cannot boot up. I don’t hear any spinning from it though it does hum when you plug it back in at first.

This video is impressive and gives me hope I can fix my HDD and backup my data. I haven’t backed up in 3 months and I did add some new data a few days ago on my HD.

I don’t have the tools like you do, but I really hope I get it back to normal.

Nice video. I don't have a zero ohms SMD resistor, can I simply take a piece of wire, just for data recovery?
You said the diode also does not need to be necessarily replaced for just data recovery purpose? Thanks

I am having the same issue.
When i inspected the board, i came to know that the diode and zero ohm resistors are bad.

So my question, is it ok to use jumper instead of the zero ohm resiators to use the harddisk just for recovering the data..?

Great electronics repair videos, really like them.

BUT....
You really should test drives on isolated machines(no networking, private or business data, etc.) and NOT on your companys daily drivers..
So beware of this common attacking vector.. ("hijacked after reparing a device" wouldn't be a nice video title, I think)

Please be careful plugging any untrusted/unknown (storage-)device to your (critical-)env!

Cheers.
