The subway system is the wild west, a war zone between criminals, the mentally ill, and homeless people attacking riders and transit workers.
It's so bad Gov Hochul sent the National Guard. And even so there were still gunshots and a man died the week the National Guard arrived.
It was so bad that the time this happened, MTA police were telling riders to help out if you see something on the subway, but when they do they get arrested too.
The high crimes on the subway are not Daniel's fault. The mental health crisis in our city is not Daniel's fault. He was just a passenger trying to help scared riders.
I support mental health advocacy. I'm sorry what happened to this family's son and brother. but he also acted out. The public has a right to defend themselves.

It could have been anyone in his situation, but he is one who took responsibility as Good Samaritan and the citizen to use his skills to help others. We need more individuals like Daniel Penny.
