Awesome review, I thought Panasonic was the better one until I researched the Sony with it and found it to be garbage. What good is the camera if it can’t stay in focus, better to use my iPhone 8 Plus instead.

Made a similar change to my equiptement, just get rid of my GH4 and bought the a6300 instead. I didn't regret so far.

Gh5 lacks 4k detqil, DR and the high iso pales in comparison. And the AF well is not even close so yeah the 6500 is a better camera. The gh5 has more bells and whistles. The gh5 has more bits yet it is handycapped by the midget sensor thus the lack of 4k detail and other is shortcomings

Maybe I live under a rock and missed something, but are you still using the a6500 as your main camera? And if so how happy are you??

i think the right metaphor would be GH5 has shania vocal range but doesn't have auto tune. you have to know to manually do it.

do you have any video on what settings should be selected for vlogging? specially from context of FocusMode and Metering? when i am in front of light behind me (like a window), my sony brings details in those brights and i am totally blacked out.. i tried giving center metering and center focus, but it doesn't wrk.. what would you suggest?

My wife has the a 6500 but I find it a bit noisier than my rx10 Mark 3. Plus the car idling with changing lenses to get the shot games a lot of missed shots and inconvenience for travel. I got the best results with the rx10 Mark 3 and I got all the shots and clean low Noise video and stills.

You could have waited for the firmware upgrade xD Well, Panasonic AF is a beast now, faster than older Canon and Sony cameras :)

The reason why Panasonic doesn't support Phase detect AF: "This is because with phase detection AF, picture quality can be damaged [by the phase detect pixels]. With contrast-detection AF and DFD technology, we don’t need any dedicated pixels [for autofocus] and we believe it is more precise."

Except for the 10 bit and 4k 60 fps on the GH5, the a6500 is a better deal because you need and external monitor and audio recorder/microphone anyways. So the total cost for the a6500 is better. I think this is what SONY is shooting for. .... the semi pro shooter getting started on a tight budget....oh and on a size/weight budget too since the a6500 starts a lower weight and size.

I predict in the future SONY next model will be called a6600.

The AF is not good with the GH5, but you messed up criticizing the stabilization. Did you try IBIS? You have to switch it on on the lens...Did you try various stabilization settings? I assume you didn't...
