We are poor and we don't get welfare. Just know poor doesn't always mean hand out. We raised our two kids with yearly income between 20 and 28k. I was a stay at home mom and my husband of 26 years worked. We took no hand outs except medical for our kids we did not use unless it was necessary. My kids graduated and daughter goes to a vocational college she is 24 with a family of her own. Doing better than we did with her. Our son has chosen to work construction like his dad . Maybe he will decide he don't want that hard work the rest of his life and maybe he won't. But he is a good man. And happy. My husband now is retired drawing only 800 a month from retirement. Because of working under the table for so long. And me I have no real world work tomorrow experience. So I grapple with what will I do if .... Anyway just want people to know . There is exceptions.

Damn right! I’d like to see any politician successfully do my job as a concierge at an apartment building on the overnight (graveyard) shift. Especially at my rate of pay ($18.77 an hour) and my compensation package. Them bastards wouldn’t last. They just wouldn’t. Part of it is building true rapport with the residents. People know bullshit. And part of it is just common sense (calling cops when needed, etc.). I barely make enough to live off of. That’s fact. Too to qualify for assistance (not that I’d take it). And too little to make ends meet consistently. I live in Reston, Virginia (in the Washington, DC area). Shit’s costly here. What keeps me here is my support system (parents, brother, and sister-in-law) and the fact I have bipolar. My bipolar care team are licensed in Virginia. If I move there’s a chance (big ass one) that my meds will be overhauled (all new meds). That ain’t good. And I don’t drive. So, less costly places I’d consider are Lafayette, Indiana and St. Louis, Missouri. Both places I have family nearby. But my support system would be cut drastically. Them politicians don’t have this to deal with. And my last proper vacation (where I actually didn’t stay home) was in May 2018. Yeah. I’ve got a long ass bucket list. Mainly of places I wanna travel. I’ll turn 42 in December 2023. If I even get an eighth or quarter of that list done … I’ll be ok.

Damn, how true! I cried all thru this song . Sadly, I slid from middle class to elite poor when I could no longer get work back during the Obama Administration. Stuck on disability because struggling companies can't afford to hire cripples who WANT to work! Disability, does not support you, it barely keeps you alive and for a hard working person it's an insult and disgrace for all the blood, sweat and tears a person puts in on a daily basis.
