25.48....."how can I entertain her on 65 dollars a week...?"........." your married...do you have to entertain her?"......and.....39.01...this scene is 3 seconds long....and it tells you everything about the next unseen hour,....brilliant. PS this ends a long scene between Hayward and Conte that crackles; they are brilliant together.
Why Edward G, didn't get an Oscar for his riveting performance is a mystery.
Great dialogue...and here's more gems:.....43.35..." when you were a girl the fastest thing in the world was a horse.".... "( gasp)...I'll have you know my husband died happy!"..."your husband was happy to die; which is a different thing".......and......." Marriage is different here too...older world?; boy and girl, they get engaged...they wait one year, two year...when they tire of each other, they get married...United States is different; they get married right away...get tired afterwards."

Can’t help but think some story-lines left on cutting-room floor. Continuity is sumthin else…but sets, lighting, and cast is good. More celluloid than would fit on second reel mebbe.

Whenever I see Richard Conte, Susan Hayward & Edward G. Robinson's names in a movie, there are no worries about it being superb. Richard Conte's so suave, handsome & talented. All 3 are some of my all-time favorite actors. Great movie! Thanks so much for the upload. "You mustn't threaten an Italian; it doesn't mix well in our blood."

I've always been a R. Conte fan...what a Hunk! E. Zimbalist Jr. is a looker too!
Richard and Susan had such a energy together in this picture. What a great Cast. Fantastic soundtrack too. The actor that played Joe...they couldn't do any better casting that role...he played the perfect bad guy...They all did a wonderful job!
R. Conte and S. Hayward did a second movie together a few years after this one...
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
5/5 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

This film is a masterpiece. So many great actors. Richard Conti, Susan Hayward and above it all Eward G. Robinson, the fake Italien father. I never saw an actor in a film who played his role so convincing.

Let's get something straight....Richard Conte never kisses Maria on the lips...that's just one physical abnormality. The rest has to do with what must be a portrayal of the most dysfunctional family. There is no love...no contact...no caring...no responsibility...and no form of familial relationship...only transactions. I'm offended by the statistical evidence in films in the stereotyping of Italians as amoral...I shouldn't care but I do. Otherwise....this is a pretty good movie acted by very few Italians...haha...go figure.

Hayward is a beautiful woman, and a very good actress. I am really enjoying watching these old movies, which I used to eschew when I saw them aired on Saturday afternoon television as a kid. Some of them are, of course, real dogs. Some of them are actually very good. And it's very interesting to not only see how film was done in an earlier era, but to also see what the culture and zeitgeist were at the time the movies were released.

Today's movies are sometimes very good--especially in terms of cinematic effects. But much of what comes out of Hollywood in the 2020s is pretty awful. Star Wars is one such example. The first three were very good, and were the products of the late 1970s to the mid 1980s. But now, it's all WOKE infected and inspired tripe and tropes rolled into celluloid: men are awful and ruin everything, and women are powerful and the much better of the sexes. That is always the underlying message in their latest releases. The franchise went to shit. Thanks, Disney.

I have to add, too, that some of the starlets of the '30s, '40s, and '50s were really stunning.

Whenever I think of the rapacious banking industry, the one that enslaves both individuals and nations with mountains of debt, the one that finances wars, I think of hot blooded Italians who are slapping each other around one minute, and saying "Moma mia, thatsa soma gooda pasta" the next!
