Gibson Les Paul Studio - Guitar Review - Great Sounds on Tap!

I have 1 Studio. The Studio Elite. It has binding on the neck and a vibra-mate mounted Bigsby B50. I took off the Bigsby and installed a lightweight tail piece. It has Classic '57 pups. I've been loving it lately. You need to get one of those ESP Spanner wrenches for removing/reinstalling the nut on the switch. They can be used on any of the nuts found on a guitar, as well as for removing the knobs. I have a Blackstar HT20R head. I play it through a cabinet that my brother made me. I really like it!

Great review! I'm on the hunt for a Studio at the moment and have a couple in my sights... it's tough. I find the tech specs you go into fascinating. The neck and the weight are what ultimately make the biggest difference to me. You won't be surprised I'm sure, but no two Studios I've tried have been the same so far! I like the chunkier necks and I thought the Studio was going to be a bit skinny for me but they can be pretty fat. So much seems to be down to the exact year, but maybe down to the chap/chappess finishing the guitar on the day. Hey, it's all part of the fun of Gibson guitar hunting I suppose! Keep rockin :).

I just received a brand new studio in bourbon burst….pretty, plays great.
But everything is wired backwards!!!!

The coil splits could be better if they also let you choose which coil of each humbucker you want to play through. The bridge coil further from the bridge will sound different. Same with neck. So you would love to have all 4 pots pop up and down.

I know what you mean about buying guitars. Sometimes I feel like more of a guitar buyer than a guitar player. Same w/ books.

I love the LP Studio, I have a Special with the P90's. Epiphone is what I can afford. Even the Epiphone is a beast for pickups 8.2K/9.4K (N/B). And mine is light with no weight relief at 6.2 lbs. Just a slab body for a work horse. I like my Telecasters, but the LP can do everything the single coil Tele can do & more with the P90's. Before the PAF, humbucker, the voice of Rock was a P90.

Colin, you should consider recording your own material, if you aren't already doing so.

Your so cool Man, i recently bought a Gibson 2014 Studio, 120th Anniversary model and i love it, the neck profile fits my medium sized hands,,and it sounds great thru my Blackstar ht 20 studio, my Orange Super Crush 100, my Orange Crush pro 60 112 combo, and especially thru my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe 40 watt tube amp..keep rockin Brother..

Colin, does the weight relief body because it’s lighter, cause a neck heavy neck dive when standing up playing?

I traded my Epiphone Custom pro for one of these. Biggest regret ever!!

I've been playing my Les Paul Studio live as well now for some five gigs, and the thing with these classic models like Les Pauls and Stratocasters (sorry 🙂) is that they just deliver in a cover band, because most pop/rock hits have been played on these guitars.

Great video- but doesnt give me a warm and fuzzy- having just bought one. Definitely an electronic issue somewhere. Gibson should have better quality control going on here.

Bought a new Studio and a Marshall Silver Jubilee w/ single slant face cab in 1988. Couldn't quite make the reach for the bottom cab. Hands down, the best sounding kit I ever played. I knew a guitarist at the time who I believed to be one of the very best on planet earth. RIP Terry. After playing that wine red Studio, he said it was phenomenal, both in handling and sound. This was a guy who had a room full of Les Pauls and top notch gear. I ebded up sellingit to him so he could leave his expensive guitars at home and gig with it, getting everything from it that he could get from his 59, 72, and others. It never needed anything. No tweaking, no nothing. The only thing we both agreed on was it could use thicker frets. other than that: perfection. IDK, maybe it was a freak.

Nice style...To me, it's very much an American Southern Rock sound, I can't quite tell if it's Allman Brothers ala Dickie Betts, or The Marshall Tucker Band sound. Either way, I very much like it, and could listen to it for hours. I wish I could play like that, then I'm sure I'd play for hours. Nevertheless, Thank You very much for such a thorough and fine review. It will very much help me enjoy my Studio Deluxe much more.

Hi could you give me your opinion on a Les Paul Classic? thinking about buying a Les Paul its between a standard or a classic

I'm sure the black nitro doesn't smell as nice as clear.

I had a TV Yellow Studio that I played for years. It was quite adequate for my playing needs, really nice instrument.

My "vantage" l100 weighs 8.4lbs, pretty sure ur doesn't gave weight relief, still want a tangerine studio

Nice review. I bought a Tribute, brand new in the box and all of the pots were bad, and one failed completely after a short time. Shame on Gibson lack of quality control, or should I say no quality control.

I've got 3 Les Pauls. Epiphone 56 reissue goldtop, 2015 Manhattan Midnight with upgraded tuners( the reason I got it for $650 USD is everyone hates that robot tuner...easy fix), and a 2007 wine red with gold hardware. The 2007 is the best, and I've never changed anything on it. I'm normally a Fender guy, but I love my Gibson Les Paul studios!

I own a 2018 Smokehouse Burst Gibson Les Paul Studio and am very happy with it. It has neck binding on it though which is a surprise considering other studios do not. Im very happy with the sound of it and it can compete very nicely with my sons 2022 60s Les Paul Standard. Great guitar!

Back in the 80's and 90's they had the Studios in ebony with all gold hardware and the wine red with all gold hardware for about $899 to $999 US dollars new.

the pups in this guitar remind me of the "hotrods" edition sold by guitarmadness...the neck reads 7.4ish and the bridge reads 15.6ish...
i put a mini slider on/off/on switch on the cavity cover and properly split the coils on the bridge humbucker and left the neck humbucker as is...
the bridge pup now is a "3 in 1" pickup with heaps of tone options!
i have my douglas tele HH clone set up like this...i need to make a film on the finished project and pop it up on my other channel...

I own a '94, also ebony but with gold hardware, I still think that looks really smart with the glossy black finish, not available anymore today. I bought it brand new at the tender age of 19 and for a very long time it was the only guitar I needed. I remember when I took it home it was immaculate, no blemishes, set-up issues or anything, perfect, worlds apart from what I was used to until then. Apart from the gold hardware my studio differs from this one in that mine doesn't have pull-push switches, no weight relief and the tuners on mine are the standard Gibson Deluxe ones.

Bought a used black Gibson LP Studio several years ago for $600.00 US. Love it. It's probably the last guitar I would sell.
