Iceland's Blue Lagoon evacuated after volcano erupts

It’s beyond me that anyone would want to visit while there’s unpredictable volcanic activity in the area. Mother Nature herself is telling you to stay the heck out by constantly filling the roads over by lava and cutting it off.

It’s not even a ‘natural’ lagoon as most people think. It’s completely manmade - on top of what they now know is a magma sill below the ground. The ground at blue lagoon even inflated recently while magma filled the sill beneath the Svartsengi area. The lagoon is actually a controlled run off from the power plant - aka it’s basically the waste water and excess that gets removed from the power plant after the geothermal process is complete. It’s not unhealthy or anything or contaminated like you’d imagine ‘waste water’ would be, it’s actually really nutrient rich - hence its colour. But it’s still none the less, waste as it’s a by-product of the main process. They’re just good at recycling. 🙃

Iceland has numerous natural geothermal springs to offer - I was in Iceland a couple of months ago and paid the equivalent of £4 to enter one (it pays for upkeep and maintenance of the area around it) compared to the £100+ people are paying at the Blue Lagoon.

I lived 5 miles from the Blue Lagoon for 4 years. Volcanoes happen in Iceland. It is what it is.

It was actually closed and fully evacuated before the eruption began. Get your facts straight.
