Series Review: Pretty Little Liars by Sara Shepard [SPOILER FREE]

I’m on the 2nd book at the moment and I prefer the tv show at the moment. I’m not sure if I’m going to read the other books, I feel that it is different to the tv show and for me, I watched the tv show before the book and the tv is the “proper” storyline to me. X

Hello! I am a French fan of the Pretty Little Liars book series and I happened to see your video. I think you did a real good job!
I personnally like the books very, very much -- actually this is the book series that gave me the ambition to write mystery books!
There might be some SPOILERS in this comment so new and soon-to-be readers beware ^^
I really liked the 3rd act, but I agree that it wasn't necessary at all. The story was very well concluded after book 8, but I still liked the 8 following books. I think there were really good ideas in them: Ali's accomplice for example and how this accomplice tricked the girls, Tabitha's story, the Ali's Lions, and the many plans set by Ali to trap the girls. Those plans were really interesting to read! I really liked Emily's evolution as well as Hanna's.
However, I think that book 8 was a much better finale since it was really explosive, unexpected and shocking :) Actually the second arc was my favourite too :)

Hey!! I know I’m like 3 years late, but i was wondering if I should read Ali’s Pretty Little Lies after all 16 books, or should I read that book after the 8th books?

I finished the series a couple days ago and I regret nothing! I had been in a reading slump for about a year, which was hard cuz I'm usually a very avid reader. This series helped bring back my love of reading. I enjoyed them very much, although I agree that readers needed more closure in the last book then what we got. Besides that it's a really great series and I recommend it for anyone who might be interested

I'm currently reading the second book (Flawless). My best friend and I was obsessed the T.V show, and we decided we were going to buy the books and read it. It's quite an easy read and I'm so excited to continue reading. I've fallen in love with the characters, espicially Emily. The book is targeted towards my demographic- teens. So alot of the issues that are portrayed throughout the series I can kind of relate to in a way.

Loved your review, thank you for making it! I just finished the tv series (finally), and while I loved the first 4 seasons of it, 5-7 were SOOO dragged out I actually started hating it. I was thinking about starting the book series, but if it was anything like the tv show (especially the later seasons), I didn't want to waste my time reading it. Glad to hear it sounds like the books are a lot different, so I might pick them up from the library and see how it goes from there. Thank you again for your great (spoiler free) review! :)

i have read the whole series including the companion books and I was disappointed with the last book. I honestly thought it started of pretty well but it got dragged on too long. And for such a long series it the finale wasn't explosive enough

God, you’re pretty wrong! You read the prequel after book 12 (Burned), because there’s a huge spoiler in book 12 that ties with it.

Can you also just choose a book from 1-4 and get the story? Because i watched the show and I have to read 1 book for school and book 3/4 seem the most interesting, i don’t have the time right now to read all of them but i will later on! Is it possible?

If the show creators had ONLY stayed close to the Books, it would of been AMAZING. Like seriously, they added so much unnecessary drama to the show, they should of just stuck with the books.

it's not that I didn't like arc 2 & they were just very forgettable until book 8 and 16

I always wonder how people can sit down and read a 18 books long series, I can finish 2 at most and it takes me months to do so. Then I remeber I am dyslexic 😂😂

ugh i read the entire series and NO the last 8 books are NOT worth it. i like to pretend they don't exist lol the last 8 books should all be called "sara shepard needs to pay her mortgage." the first 8 books are soooo good lol but the last 8 made me regret everything

When I ended the series I was willing to read all the books! And I accidentally buy first twisted, now gotta wait until the first books arrives 😭

I remember that I loved the series so much that I bought Twisted book without knowing the order of the books 😭
When I read it I was so confused

I loved the latter books. For me it was totally worth reading them all to get the dramatic ending. I personally loved the ending!
