Paradorn's game looking great here, the early '00s was his peak period. Nice to see him getting some air time on the Wimby channel.

Rafa's volleying is downright awful........pretty much sets the bar for the lack of serve and volleying talent in the last 23 years on tour.
On grass, peak Becker,Edberg and Sampras would have posed serious problems for pseudo volleyers like Fed.....and glued to the baseline players in the mold of Nole' and Rafa.

Sampras had technically signed up for Wimby 2003.......but realised that he was way out of shape and form to make an eventual appearance and finally withdrew as the 2003 tournament began.

Of the big 3 of the last 25 year generation(Fed,Rafa and Djoko).....only Fed got the chance to pit his skills against a true grass court player-Sampras.
By 2003....the other elite serve and volleyers -Edberg,Mac and Becker..... were long gone.....paving the way for fluff like Hewiit(who Becker beat in his penultimate match in 1999),Phillipoussis(who lost to Edberg at the Ozzie in 1995) and Roddick(who lost to Sampras at the US Open in 2002)....to offer the opposition for Fed and co for the rest of the 00s at Wimby.

I know he won't get much attention here but Srichapan was a lovely player to watch. I think this was the year he upset Agassi.

Paradorn was at his peak in 2003. Finished the year ranked No. 9, so it was a tough matchup for the young Nadal, especially on grass.

Jesus Christ, Rafa had a full set of hair here, and so did Srichapan, how badly Rafa got old errrhhg, even Federer still got a full set of hair at 43, Rafa looks like a 50 year old man almost bald, and Srichapan probably aged badly too, I'll have to see a picture of him currently, to make an assessment.

Not even one year later he was beating number one ATP Roddick in Davis Cup and at this point he s not the same player anymore. He s nearly fully complete physically and technically. It s very quick I have to say.

For those curious, Nadal had only just turned 17 here, was already ranked 76 in the world, had beated Moya on clay in his previous tournament (who had won the french open several years prior) & had been in multiple futures or challengers finals and won one. Calling Nadal a prodigy was an understatement

Ignorance anyone? Grand slam means winning all four majors in a calendar year. The media embracing a catchy phrase have changed it to mean any major. It matters when Rod Lavers magnificent achievement of winning all four in the same year TWICE, is never credited, and the young do not know this. Rod Laver THE G O A T. NO one comes close today.
