I must note that sleeping bags no NOT hold any nutritional value whatsoever in the real world.

I'd done several of the characters solo but never attempted the white mage as I didn't think it was possible to do 2k damage before the next Cure all spell came around. Now I know it's possible... and that the Thief would be even harder!?!?New goals.

I find it funny that throughout this entire run the white mage is dragging around the three corpses of their friends for the entire journey

You can get the Zeus gauntlet in the Citadel of Trials much earlier. After getting the canoe, sail the boat to the small river just north of the Citadel. You can transition from the boat to the canoe then turn left into the forest and make your way to the Citadel.

I was thinking about this in the context of Pokemon, but it also applies here. Sometimes game systems can interact in unforeseen ways to create "optimal" strategies, but they require the player to take tedious sequences of actions to perform.

The stat gains that aren't guaranteed are perfect examples of this. Taken together with the saving system you can always get the stat boost you want if you are willing to repeat the same battle over and over again. This is subjective but I would consider this sequence to be uninteresting, and therefore bad game design. To fix it, everyone needs to always gain a predictable amount of stats so there is no way to optimize.

If you're not going to use party members, then it's not fair to use their corpse's pockets for your inventory.

the stat issue is why i refuse to EVER play the nes version, i recommend dawn of souls or pixel remaster to anyone who wants to play

I didn't see anyone else say this, but once you have the airship and can afford the protect ring, you're immune to the eye's death spells. As far as I know, that is the fastest leveling, since you run into a fight every 2 steps, and it has very little HP. I think the only place with better XP over time are the zombie dragons at the end of the castle of ordeals, but that would take longer for a solo white mage to win (or you'd have to use spells). It would probably be boring, but farming eyes until you're about to level up, stepping out to save scum until you get your stats, then going back to the eye is probably the fastest level up spot.

I beat final fantasy on the PlayStation with a party of white mages. But i think they nerfed some spells that the last boss used.

We used to do these solo runs a lot in the 80's and I remember the White Mage was the second hardest if you don't upgrade to wizard, but mainly because its just so boring and slow. However the Thief solo run is INFINITELY worse. You'll grind until you're blue in the face and then grind some more. I never completed a Thief run, but I did succeed in a solo ninja run. My favorite run of all time was 4 ninjas.

Could you imagine this as an anime where the party wipes in the first fight except for the healer, and the healer proceeds through the rest of the quest supported by the ghost of his peers.

Ive done 4 white mages, used the heck out of the zeus gauntlet and thors hammer. That was impressive.

This is not the FF1 I remember. I remember locks on the spells, you could not learn anything after a certain point until your ascended your team to the prestige classes. I remember there being a turn meter, not specifically stop time turn based. To stop the game you had to pause it, if you did nothing the AI would just keep taking turns. As I recall early on the Thief seemed good because they did good damage but with no magic were more of a liability later on. I never tried to finish the game with them. I always ran two warriors, white mage and then either red mage or black mage.
