People always say its disappointing how egdy this game can be but its oddly realistic i first played the game when i was 16 and didn't really understand the story and again at 17 ( i was assaulted by two older boys) and i still never saw it for what it was. I knew something bad was happening but i never knew what it was until years after the fact. Alice is realistic like that in fact i don't think I've ever had a piece of media do so... right i suppose. It can take alot to wake you up from your bubble and into reality. Madness returns is a perfect and accurate depiction of SA. There's a line in the game where nanny says " poor little tikes nothing but food for perverts" and a momory says "creepy sod! He was there alice.. touching me." The game doesn't really hide this but i still never noticed or realised what was happening until years later.

So sad we’ll never see Alice Asylum:(

The second I heard the Rule of Rose OST playing right at the beginning, I knew you had excellent taste in stories. Can't wait to watch this 💕

honestly it really sucks when creative people get shafted by corporate greed.

Honestly, this is my favorite take of Alice In Wonderland. As an adult, it makes for a fantastic and tragic tale.

Sadly the third game is cancel by EA and all the original creators have quit working with EA.

god i love alice madness returns so much. i just wish that in an alternate reality, we would be able to see the release of alice asylum. but unfortunately this will never happen and will forever be a dream to me. and it shatters my heart

These are two games I hope to own and play someday! I have not got around to doing that yet. My fault.

American's Alice games hold a special place in my heart. I played the original on PC back when it first came out, when I was only about 12, and it seemed like no one had heard anything about it at the time, as it was a bit niche. Even when I started working at a game store years later and I'd ask random customers about it, nearly no one had heard of it. I was elated when the second game released, when I was about 23, and it was everything I'd hoped for, and I played it to death. I eagerly waited for a third, hoping all the heart and soul he put into it would come to fruition... I was so heartbroken when he finally made the announcement in April this year that a third game will never happen with him involved, even if EA gets their head out of their asses. I've always disliked EA, but this full on makes me hate the company now. I am so disappointed in them, and I hate that it seems to have made American want nothing to do with game publishing anymore. I hope he eventually changes his mind, though I can understand why he wouldn't. This is such a great series.

I think I am going to get a copy of Madness Returns for PS3

This game and the subject of Alice In Wonderland proved that horror and reality/surrealism can be colorful while simultaneously being horrifying. Many films and series of the present are so lacking and boring like the Netflix live action Winx Club series. It's not horror but their attempt at making a mature version of it was a poor pity party from a long time fan such as myself. It was boring, lacking and very insulting.

In my head canon, Alice is in silent hill. She just has a particularly unique manifestation of it. There's even a part in the game where you walk through an abandoned fog filled city.

I've been binge watching your videos after discovering the channel from Geller's page. This essay was fantastic, as were the others, but doubly so because Alice is a true labor of love.

First time playing it, I fell in-loved with it right away

It's like Alice is mixing her childhood with her trauma from the asylum. A typically friendly cat turned grotesque, with a human smile and elongated spine.

A pity it looks like Alice: Asylum isn’t being taken up by Electronic Arts. Big mistake!

I got recommended this video after Alice Asylum has been cancelled

I originally played this way back on the ps3, i also have it on PC Steam, but unfortunately Steam PC has a lot of problems that hasn't been fixed even with fan patches, it's still a fun platform action to play, the style always stands out with this game, I believe they cancelled Alice Asylum ☹

I love how people are still talking about American McGee’s Alice, it's my favorite game and I find the story rather compelling, I’ve loved it for over 2 years now and I think I’ll keep loving it for a long long time.

So sad to learn that EA has decided not to greenlight the Asylum project. This decision also appears to have dashed Mr. McGee's aspirations to create video games in the future.

I'm going to show my age now, but I enjoyed the first American McGee's Alice when it initially came out and I always meant to play the sequel but have yet to get around to it. Having seen this analysis, I will check it out when I can. Thanks for the interesting and insightful video :)
