Fix a Corrupted Windows Install

Obviously, a clean install is faster and better, but this is for those that can't lose programs, data, or licensing. Also a good implementation for repair shops that can't wipe out customer data.

I cant do anything with my windows 10 it is broken, apps for windows 10 don't open task manger don't open cant even run as
administration please help

Hey chris, recently ive partitioned and formatted my windows 10 using a usb, deleted all partitions and had unallocated space. Now when i load up my conputer there is no wifi. Is there a way to fix this?

I get a windows 22h2 error only updated a couple of KB updates 2018,2019,2020 and only 1 2021 and it seems it hangs on microsoft edge updates any suggestions i followed to videos you made but to know avail.

How can I prevent my windows from corrupting? I feel like its been doing it at least once every two weeks and its becoming really fucking annoying

I want to correct a number of issues w/Win 10, so I will use these tools, but do not want to potentially damage any installed programs or user files. I have chosen to take my entire user space and put it on a flash drive (minus .appdata for space), and thinking that I should take all of my program files and put them on a separate partition on my local drive so that when I do my iso install I can essentially wipe it and start out clean.
Do you see this as an effective plan for reliability?,
(Ideally I would like to have another drive for the pgm files, but no can do for now)
Are there any additional tools that I would need beyond what you addressed here?

my case is particularly a little bit complicated . i bought a hp probook x360 g1 11 ee from a friend.
he was stock and decided sell it to me at half the cost price.
i can't access settings, apps, or any other system settings. i can't even properly install an app but i can access the control panel with little component available and no access to unistall tab.
this is the error i receive:
''this app can't open
there's a problem with settings. refreshing your PC might help fix it''
i refreshed but nothing changed.

then later i tried changing it system using a bootable usb flash with windows 10 21H1x64 but it doesn't recongnise the key (the usb flash doesn't appear )

Will this tutorial help me fsctory reset my system? As ive tried but it says “could not find recovery environment” so I tried reagentc/enablw which didn’t work it said “windows could not find RE image” so I tried troubleshooting that but ofc that didn’t work either. So I just want to know if this tutorial is worth my time or someone guide me to a tutorial to factory reset a broken win10 system. (Tried almost every method to the moon and back you name it I will say “tried that” most likely)

What I call a Corrupted Windows Install is an Installation you can't get into and you're stuck in a windows repair boot loop.

I'm getting a code 193 when trying to execute DISM. What could be the problem?

I get in random situations (idle and or after restart only) any ntfs.sys bsod causing by windows service in background.

What is your opinion on home user using Windows 7 in 2022, without Extended Support?

This isnt a corrupted install, its just a stripped down version of windows.

A corrupted install wouldn't boot, or will bluescreen on startup.

The issue is that you don't fully understand the need for both utilities Chris. Each has a specific purpose. Sometimes SFC won't complete properly because the image is corrupted and you need DISM to repair it. Then once DISM has repaired it you can run SFC again to fix the items it's designed to fix. DISM is an awesome and complex tool that can do so many things but not all things. BOTH tools should be used as needed. Your case of such a corrupted version of Windows if it was due to Debloat or real corruption I would simply do an inplace repair. Microsoft will fix 99.9% of anything broken in that image. No loss of programs or data just Windows repaired in the vast majority of cases. If it were due to a virus (extremely unlikely, one rarely sees a virus in the past decade, more likely a Trojan) then I would cautiously back up personal data and do a clean install of Windows. No need to waste time with DISM for that. With such a broken system that you showed and patched back together to "work" would still be an unsfe, unsecure, piece of junk that will bite you in the a$$ sooner or later. Do the right thing. Wipe it and reinstall Windows properly.

I would be very interested in how to run DSIM from a command prompt when you have a continuous GSOD (Green Screen Of Dismay) that is preventing you from booting into Windows. It is confusing booting from. USB recovery and trying to navigate from a command prompt.

Definitely saving this for later. I once upgraded my uncle's computer to an SSD but I could never get it to boot properly from the SSD. I went deep down the rabbit hole of troubleshooting and recovering the windows boot manager. As a linux user, it seemed like a black box that I wasn't supposed to be able to debug. The number of forums that told me "just sfc scannow and everything will be fine" drove me absolute crazy. I eventually did a clean install. Do you have any advice to recover from that situation where you can't even boot the corrupt machine?

Is there a way you can add a script to mount the iso wim image path into your script toolbox so it's a one click scan/repair?

Brilliant as always! Would this help with an extremely slow booting Windows 10? It's on a good SSD and I restored an image via Macrium but now it takes like 15 mins to get past the black screen with spinning circle

can we get disable or manual and restore services in windows tool kit it goes down 100 processes but start them anyway. fast anyway. i know disabling them breaks stuff but im only gamer. chris how fast was your stripped down windows fps cyberpunk compared to vanilla?

Hey Chris, loved the vid! The DISM command has saved me countless times but admittedly the sfc commands have proven worthless repeatedly. Also, a heads up, on your website version of the tutorial, the DISM command is in the "copy" box twice back to back so that might confuse people and make them think it doesn't work. In my about 15 years of tinkering with Windows, I've seen sfc work and actually do something twice.

Personally haven't had too much success with DISM before but will try this put next Customer corruption, lol. -Mark.

Dism/scannow never found anything. I simply start setup from the last iso and install oder my system. Resets any bad settings und leaves programms installed

The MCT usually works for me 9 times out of 10 but knowing the DISM source command is also very useful
