I love tech communities that pop up around languages, but having a great community about the practice of SWE would be awesome. I would especially like a place for those of us moe experienced and long-in-the-tooth to connect in addition to a place for more junior people.

I don't like the idea of a exclusive space for patreons only. The community would benefit the most from an open Discord space. In my opinion this aspect has a high potential to divide people and not so great potential to make people interested in supporting your work.

A huge benefit to members would be some sort of lab access to implement/ test ideas that depend on workflows/infrastructure and tools discussed in the videos. Today infrastructure is code and that's a big confounding issue with the topics discussed here. Example projects are worth their weight in gold.

This sort of thing makes demonstrations and adoption of a worlflow or best practice much more likely. Most people watching don't control their organizations they merely influence them...

I’d pay a monthly Patreon fee (£10 or so) for no extra benefit, just as a “thank you” for the content on your channel. I gain a lot of value from it, as do several of my friends and colleagues.

I would gladly pay 5 to 10$ months so it can allow juniors to have low subscription to acces bonus content and private community.

If a Patreon scheme could allow to produce subtitles for better accessibility and translation to other languages it would be hugely useful to broaden the audience.

Your channel and books are full of insights, I would support a Patreon! I would like a space for people to discuss their problems and strategies to deal with large shift in engineering thinking along the organization. You and others make convincing cases for Continuous Delivery and other practices, but seems that engineers agreeing with goals is not always enough.

You could run the "case study raffle", in which supporters post consultation-like problems they are running through, and every 1 or 2 months one is the winner, and they you intervene with your approach to solve the problem and then post the case study

I would be happy to both support via patreon as a token of gratitude, and I would also consider supporting on a higher tier depending on the benefits. In general establishing a community where you participate asynchronously or occasionally in real time would be interesting.

ABSOLUTELY would love to support your work Dave. A community for Software Engineering Excellence is so attractive to me personally. Thinking $9/month or $99/year would be good support tiers that regular devs could afford on their own. For businesses, probably higher priced plans at $249/year for each 5 devs they want to give access to, but the profile/logins should belong to devs not the employer so they can keep them when moving to new jobs. Please, please do not use Patreon as the core for community and offer some other direct option for payment. Use a platform that gives you more independence and control. I recently deleted my patreon account of over a decade because of their growing censorship regime which I just can no longer support. It would be a real shame if Patreon was the only option and I couldn't support you through some independent channel.

Content I think would be valuable would be a step by step guide to implementing a full pipeline in common tech stacks. Sort of a hello world for complete pipelines with common tools and scenarios. Most of the descriptions are a bit abstract and some concrete examples really helps clarify things imho.

Where can I sign up, ready to give you money right now.

First and foremost: I would absolutely love a Discord (or Slack)! Freely accessible to everyone is nice, restricted to Patreons only is cool too.
In terms of Patreon: I would definitely become a member if there was a tier that was something like 1 - 8 euro

I am in the process of changing career to software development. This channel has been an excellent recourse to help me find ways of approaching software development especially TDD.

I don't have much money for patreon memberships (see the comment about being in the middle of changing careers) but I could justify a low-tier membership if I thought it would help me perform better at my job.

I see a few responses from Continuous Delivery saying that low-cost options will be available if they put this into practice. So thank you.

I would definitely pay for more content, you should consider publishing to O'Reilly Books. I paid for several volumes of Robert Martin's Clean Code series, and $10/m subscription model would work better for me than paying per video. The Clean Code series is now on O'Reilly Books and I review it many times a year.

Patreon is a great idea! Thank you very much for an opportunity to share our ideas and comments too! 😊
Although I hope there will be a smaller tier - I want to join immediately without any hesitation to support the channel and be a part of the community. But I am also in humongous debt and I can't yet afford to have too many expenses.
But I would see Patreon very much as a community building. Maybe a resource base or a library of projects/ideas/studies too. The source citing for studies is the only thing that I miss on this channel. Discord for Patreon members is a must for years now 😁
Also when I think about it it maybe wouldn't be a terrible idea to start a subreddit too. For free of course, I don't think there is a way to restrict access by any way.
Looking forward to it whatever you do in the end, Dave! 😉

Only one question left: where's the link to your new patreon now? ;)
I would subscribe in a heartbeat!

As a professional developer, I get a lot of insight from your content already - that alone is more than enough for me to want to support the channel.
Any extras on top are welcome yet not necessary for me.

Personally, I doubt I'll be active in any chats/discord, but i would gladly watch more videos on less popular topics you might not want to publish as main channel content.
I would be thankful for a way to ask questions / pitch video ideas - with no "guarantee" that you'll take it, of course, but maybe as an "idea box" of sorts.

I would be very generous, in double digits, if I'd get videos about: (A) software architectures, (B)analysis of existing teams or software (like the ebay one), (C)learning about efficient ways to communicate architectural/technical decisions to various audiences, (D) ideas about potentially efficient ways to improve as a software developer, books worth reading (arguably all books are worth reading, but maybe some are more impactful than others? Like your books, I love them), (E) pitfalls, errors or bad decisions that you have encountered in your experience in software development.
The discord idea is modern and attractive, but you will have to see how efficient will it be when 100k subscribers interact with your team at the same time.

Thank you for your content. I find it inspiring and insightful. The way you articulate the subjects in your videos help me realize how much I do (not) know about software development.

When setting up a community (such as Discord) consider not slashing your community in half by only allowing paid members access to the server. If possible, set up channels for anyone interested in what you teach with a few channels only for premium members.

In regards to the content, I am looking for resources that help me learn faster while avoiding doing the same mistakes others did before me if they are avoidable. Anything that would help this goal would be worthwhile - for example sample git projects which illustrate best practices or configuration examples for pipelines (such as Jenkins) set up according to the principles you shared in one of your recent books.

Also having the ability to talk with other like minded people about TDD, reactive programming, hexagonal architecture and other topics (even without a subscription) would be great and would build a stronger community over time.

Great idea! The stuff you are communicating is essential - it's a huge topic of interconnected practices and needs to be talked about continuously ;-) Personally, I'd like to see an index to bite sized topics and themes, maybe a graph of how this connects to that. Collaborating on presentations that help communicate these initiatives outside of the engineering room could help us all state our case more clearly to those how can't see the forest. Subscribing without ads would be a benefit, but I'd put up with them to have access to the other suggestions.

One thing you can supply is written transcripts of your videos. Although the video format has its merits, it sucks for revisiting it, and it slow as hell to find whatever one wants to find. Text articles are still unbeatable on these aspects.

Your job is amazing, I can support with no problem. I would like to be able to pay the TDD course, But it's too expensive. Patreon for TDD practitioners would be great xD

I'd prefer somethng more like Reddit/thread style since I get lost in discords with a large community. Would be open to paying 5-15 USD/mo
