These days, I think money is becoming more divorced from this meaning… you go to work and do worthless nonsense (whether that be banging away at spreadsheets for an industry that shouldn't exist, servicing the unfiltered public and giving them an unwarranted degree of respect and deference, or writing code to remove the livelihoods of the people doing the previous 2 jobs) in order to get food to eat and a roof over your head, AND THEN you go home and live your "why"—raising children, doing academic research, building things for your neighbors, or just engaging in conspicuous consumption for social media—in the weekends, morning, afternoon, and every other Friday

Idk, I don’t buy it. ‘Apple challenges the status quo’ is a marketing gimmick. Great when pc’s dominated the market... the classic underdog trope, the David vs Goliath story. However, Once apple became the status quo, what exactly have they challenged? Challenged the notion of squeezing as much as possible out of the consumer, right? Jacked up phone prices, removed chargers to force users to buy them, slowed down phones to induce new sales, arguable started taking short cuts on user privacy, I mean come on.

How easy is it to just reverse the claims ‘what, how, why’ into ‘why, how, what’ And market it that way? Apple isn’t operating any different than any other corporation, it’s just another era of business pandering its marketing to consumers - lazy millennials who’ve never really been challenged, have little direction but a lot of moral arrogance, so the appeal of engaging in buying stuff ‘with a story’ or ‘with social purpose’ briefly fulfills their empty void within. Same reason why businesses think suddenly jumping on the bandwagon and claiming support of blacks /women/rainbow or anti-male/male/Christian makes their products/services morally superior. It’s just marketing BS.

Simon has some good ideas, sometimes. Other times I think just what in the f- is he saying?
