"Young ppl are sadder then they have ever been." Really!? Compared to S-speare's time, middle ages, Great Depression, 2 World Wars, etc... Really...

I am aiming to teach Shakespeare, and that is one of the things I want to get across to people is that Shakespeare is not romantic drivel. It's violence, sexual humor, and psychological depth. Not light Rom-Com fare. Romeo and Juliet has this reputation of a soft love story, but it's just a reputation. Either people don't actually watch/read it or they don't understand it.

I remember seeing it at a theatre many years ago and thinking, 'Wait a minute. Romeo is a drip, and the characters around him are much stronger. This is about how people might behave when they think they're in love, but are not.'

This is so exciting! Love the vibe, and all the familiar faces on stage... Please please please release the recording of it - I was so hoping to come over to the UK to see this live, but I don't think that's going to happen, so am holding all of my fingers crossed we folks abroad will get a chance to see it online or in cinemas. And here is to a great run back with live audiences!

There are so many ways to interpret R&J. Is it about the feuding families? Is it about street violence? Is it about the vulnerability of young girls at puberty? Is it about the danger of the rush of testosterone on the judgement of young men? Is it about the baggage one generation forces on the next? Is it about the agony and ectasy of being in love?
It's about all those things. That's why Shakespeare is a genius and we will always want to see as many productions of the play as we can!
Wish I could be there, Globe...but public transport just isn't safe and it is about to get even less so!!!

No it's a story about adults who talk to kids about the importance of acting rationally and not jumping into things and of staying calm and taking time with things, and then going on and doing exactly what they just told those same teenagers not to die, ie acting rashly, immaturely with no control over their emotions.

Right?! Even as a kid I never understood how R&J was meant to be romantic! It’s depressing af.

I don’t know his name, but was the black guy in the turtleneck not in Coriolanus through the Donmar Warehouse? I’m so excited to see trailers for new plays again!

Young people are not "sadder than they’ve ever been ". That’s complete nonsense. My mother was evacuated from London at the age of 9, she didn’t see her parents for 3 years. You’ve got to keep a 2m gap . . . Ahh. didems
