I’m already an obsidian user and I LOVE it, but it’s one of those things I know I’ll never fully comprehend, so I appreciate every video made by someone who knows more about this stuff than I do. Despite my lack of technical skills, Obsidian has improved my brain both by giving me the tools to record my thoughts and by deepening my knowledge of technology. I’m an analog art/writing person, and let me tell you, Obsidian is worth understanding computers for!

I would edit "I wouldn't bet my brain on it" and the line about "I can't leave my brain," the pronunciation there specifically is annoying in the 'I feel like I'm being sold something, please stop" way. I say this because the rest of it is a seemless piece of re-listenable beauty, and multiple listens have gotten me thru actually learning something, but those two moments in the recording throw me off and are a real burr.

Is there a plugin or a way to add your own fantasy map and link the cities so when you click on them it can take you on a separate note page with detailed view and more information about it?

I love it. I've gotten into it in recent weeks from a hacking teacher recommending it. It's great! I wish the image import was better, and that it, by default, showed images in editing mode, but the plug-in for that is fine.

Notion's biggest advantage is collaboration. I don't work in a vacuum. I have a team that I need to organize. I need that team to be able to edit files that I am currently editing. I need a markdown tool that can act like google docs, with tools like kanban/database stuff.
I haven't tried Obsidian in a while, but it couldn't do that last I looked.

Liked the video. But can you record video with app in full screen. Text is small and not readable on phone of the app. Nearly 20% of screen space is wasted.

My brain is so hardwired to expect segways from content creators, that I fully expected your line about going out for food to become: "but now that I have Factor/HelloFresh, I never have to go out for food ever again!"

I'm watching this for the second time and I still didn't see it coming.

I'd say most videos on Obsidian suffer from what the same problem, which is you can't really teach someone that doesn't already use Zetelkkasten or some other form of note taking method how to use Obsidian because they don't understand why they should in the first place, which means they might test the app, don't know what to do with it then stop because it doesn't make any sense for them. And considering everyone takes notes differently and invariably makes a video about it, that only adds more salt into the wound.

I tried Obsidian, but it didn't work well for me. 1) Didn't work well for collaboration. 2) It relies too heavily on plugins for everything but basic markdown editor use. 3) It requires too much knowledge in computer science for an average person to use effectively.

I write science fiction music, lyrics, and then novels to go along with the weird lyrics. So I'm thinking I'll use Obsidian to link to bits of the novels where the lyrics are, explained, I guess, if that makes any sense. Just so that I can easily go back to what I wrote and go, yeah, that doesn't make any sense why did I write that? Because that happens a lot.

I'd really love to understand why should we use note taking apps like Obsidian in the first place - is that something that helps us stay organized? increase knowledge on a subject? anything else? I'm genuinely curious, not criticizing

Hey, if syncing has been troublesome, you might like syncthing - it's an insanely useful, very stable, and foss software with clients for Android, Linux and Mac as well (for syncing notes, media and everything else with end to end encryption!). It doesn't use a central server, but you can configure something such with a spare raspberry pi you might have lying around

I currently use a personal discord server for my notes. It's on my phone and always open on the computer anyhow. Setting up channels and threads it's been quite helpful. I don't mind the idea that it is online and others can possibly see it. I do fret not archiving it. I shall try this, I've used numerous note taking apps in the past. Thank you!

Really interesting video! As of now since I mainly use pc when populating my second brain, I choose Dendron, which is a free (as of writing) VS code plugin which has many functionalities and is also all in plain text. It really does a lot and has high customizability, I suggest you try it even just for comparison!

I have been writing a end-to-end encrypted note server/app/website for a few years now. I do this because I don't like taking note, and I need a completely custom hustle-free notes app that works with my own encryption implementation.

I think Obsidian markdown is great, but 99% of its user base is never going to do these things after few days. For a note book app to work well, it needs to have the same ease-of-use as a paper notebook, but with the benefits of a being able to sync multiple times per second. That is it. Any type of complexity (more than the electronic equivalent of flipping the paper notebook's cover) is going to be a mental block for the general user, who will be wanting to note down some things and focused on something else.

I know I sound like a broken record, but maybe I am just wrong.😂 Or, we are just making difference notebooks.

I have a question, I tried to solve it myself with css snippets but it didn't work. I wonder if there is a way to give priority for themes instead of just style of linked notes. I dislike how text that has been linked to a note looks, but the only thing I can do about it is change the style of all text that has something linked to it. Is there a way to straight up turn off the styling of text that has a note linked to it? ( I want it to look as if i never linked a note to it, or at least be only underlined)
