Much of my life has been miserable due to health problems and compared to some lives - my life is easy. Of course there are those who lead extremely successful lives. And then we have people who have near death experiences who come back and say that the point of life is the evolution of our souls. Now that may or may not be true but even if it is true I fully agree that nothing would have been much better than something. I don't see how this life is worth most peoples time. Not only that - but just living destroys the planet and hurts animals and children. I love coffee and that's terrible for the planet. I indulge and that makes me evil. Most people don't realize they're the devil and delude themselves. Nobody is 100 percent devil but humanity surely is full of shit about itself

It's also true that philosophy itself is often full of shit because it fails to change people. After watching this - your neighbor will still piss you off and you'll wish you drove that expensive car so you can get laid more. You can only be so "indifferent" until your natural, stupid impulses take over again and fight eachother

Schopenhauer is the best and worst thing that ever happened to me simultaneously.

Arthur Schopenhauer and I have incredible parallel thinking. Wow. Never heard of this man until 3 or 4 months ago. I am blown away. I'm sitting here, going, Arthur gets it. He REALLY gets it.

Happiness is being ignorant of what happiness is, wealthy is the one who does not think of wealth, water is smart because takes shape of the surroundings it doesn't fight them.

Or people could try to understand that life is what you make it. By the time we mind our business, do what must be done to keep what you have and hold ourselves responsible, there wont be time to worry about what others think or say.

Diogenes says one thing about wealth and Schopenhauer another. I prefer Diogenes approach, though I think Schopenhauer has a point. However it is becoming harder to achieve a basic level of wealth for reasonable existence. Maybe Diogenes is the only solution for many of us unless youre fortunate.

Wisdom, yes...but also, a born-rich guy justifying his inheritance.

Set a trap instead

This bit of Schopenhauer is the least impressive I have come across. There is no such thing as boredom; if one cannot even entertain oneself, the problem is that one is BORING. There is a passive entitlement in his argument that would make any Stoic shudder.

WE and no one else is our own worst enemies. Learn to say no to those things that you know do not speak lovingly to your inner being. Too many are saying yes to a job that does not speak lovingly to them and some are saying yes to relationships that do not. It may be a "romantic " one or some that involve family. I also think it's important to realize that there is absolutely nothing that you have to do in life.... all is a choice that you are making.

Hmmmm.... Interesting. I do chase wealth, not fur happiness but to find contentment as it is a means of stimulating my mind and to be free.
I can also do nothing for very long periods and but get bored. I have enough money, total wealth and resources to basically do what I want but I'm not rich. I still enjoy doing very simple things and my mind and conscience is pretty much clear.. I might be selfish in that respect as I don't show outward care to others as I do not need to virtue signal to feel good. I give back and serve others in my own way
