Even when I was younger, watching the Maya and Josh conversation made me feel extremely uncomfortable. I didn't even have a good grasp on relationship toxicity at that time, but I remember that conversation making me feel physically sick. So much so I had to turn the show off.

Ill never understand why they had Riley's character do the whole "i love you because youre my brother" thing to Lucas, who is canonically 1 year older than her but not Mya and Josh, who was like 5+ years older. Really werid. Lucas obviously liked Riley, but Josh always RIGHTFULLY told Mya that she was too young for him. ???? It was right there!

Riley was a selfish and self centered girl, who only ever did selfless things that made her appear like a better person to others. She wasn't actually a better person, Maya was. And then everyone gaslit her like crazy to support eileys delusional logic (which in the end really only served to get her what she wanted while still appearing like "the better person").

I dont know, I've never liked the whole Lucas and Maya ship because it felt like it was a slap to Riley since she was the first one to really like him. I feel like everyone was drawn toward to Lucaya cause Maya was "prettier" and "cooler" than Riley. And Riley setting aside her feelings for Maya was pretty messed up because it felt like it was a "she's better than me, i cant compete". Maya was a bad friend to like Lucas when she knew just how much Riley loved Lucas. Girl code.

I always thought Maya and Lucas had more chemistry but I wouldn´t say I was on a team, I´m just sad neither couple had a good resolution. On an other note : I think the writers were trying to do like a policule resolution or something midway but disney was very against it so instead we got the actual ending

She was a very toxic friend and didnt care about maya at all
She only cares about herself and only wanted herself to be happy

Ok so my thoughts are that yes riley was very off putting amd gaslit her friend alot BUT that said , i have a different opinion some of it . I dont believe that she was intentionally gas lighting her, when i aaw the fight with meya acting and dressing like her , while riley probably did have lucas on her mind, i feel it was also that her friend was not who shes always been. She was changing herself left and right over a boy, and her changing and gettin better grades and not getting in trouble is good, but is she doing it to be better or for lucas ? I can see where riley was coming from in a sense. Her friend wasnt acting like herself. A slow graudual change maybe, but one day holding her head high, defending herself, loving her art just to turn around a day later putting on an act . (Dont come for me i wanted lucas to be with meya , becaise i thought they had the moat chemistry and since hes a bad boy turned good i think he would understa d her more and accept her without judgement while at the same time wanting her to do good as well. ) I feel the writers and director could have handled scenes differently.

I feel like some exec had an older that watched the show and complained that Riley and Maya were basically the same person at the end of Season 2. That exec turned around and yelled at the writers and now we get this nonsense.

I think Maya and Lucas are far more entertaining and charming together so I can excuse the toxic aspect because it’s fictional. Lucas and Riley were kinda cute but mostly boring and also kinda annoying (don’t kill me)

Separate note that young blonde female actress from Blockers straight up looked identical to the oldest son of Rick Grimme’s brief new love interest in season 5-6 of the walking dead. So either the guys look like girls or the girls look like guys 😂

I feel like you are right in the perspective of an adult that a lot of what they did was as you said "15-year-old behavior" but you also have to keep in mind on the show they were around that age so it is not hard to believe their actions. I understand your criticism of the adults on the show but keep in mind our core cast were freshmen in high school when this show ended so this makes their decisions a lot more realistic as when we are young we have different perspectives and actions versus when we grow up and mature.

never watched this show when it aired because i just couldn't stand the writing, it was so stiff and weird. Riley feels waaay too childish during the entire show and while it's not a crime to be overly optimistic she just comes across as manipulative and kind of dumb? I feel like if this were an adult drama riley would end up being the bad guy tbh 💀 It's just overall an incredibly weird show and i don't doubt for a second that some of the actors found it tiring
