people interested in space travel for various reasons including climate change or nuclear war claim the earth is a prison.. so too was this submarine.. a prison that breaking free of under the wrong circumstances has deadly consequences..

7 rich people going missing got worldwide media to go crazy, but on the same week 500 migrants drowned in the Mediterranean and not a single second was spared for them.

An opinion only:
Not all on board were truly aware of their impending instant death. Main concern for at least two or three was rescue efforts from the sea floor. The effect of an implosion is now well known due to this human caused tragedy. This sub had descended to Titanic’s depth several times. Perhaps two or even three knew what was imminent.

People are looking in the wrong direction. What happened to the Titan was water leaked into the bus. When that happened, they were left with no power and the Titian went on a vertical nose dive. The five people were aware of the situation in the bus bay. Both A-B Bus compromised. That were the sounds they heard when Titian was talking to mother ship

Why not to have it made out of one piece or titanium?

this is probably a very daft question.

seeing the Titan was a submersible and not a submarine and it was just diving/dropping not venturing around, and the massive amount of risk involved in a venture 4km below the surface of the ocean.

Why then was it not tethered to the mother ship via cable? At least that way finding/retrieving would be easier and it would facilitate constant comms from mother ship to the vehicle itself.

thanks to anyone who can fill the blanks for me! :)

The destruction of the device began at the place of bonding of titanium and fiberglass. This is clearly visible on the wreckage that was unloaded from the rescue ship. Titanium cannot be glued together. Those who made this device did not know that titanium does not stick well.

Печально и трагично ходить на таком корыте. Русские "Мир-1" и "Мир-2" лучшие глубинные подводные аппараты. Но капитализм не приемлет логики, поэтому он - зло!

The owners and creators of this device and the father who insisted that his son go with them on this perilous, narcissistic and egotistical journey are responsible for murder. The father who insisted on his son going was responsible for his son's murder. Simple as that.

With respect to why the U.S. Navy didn't disclose or immediately report the noise of the implosion being heard, is simply a matter of national defense. Submarine warfare is not for everybody to understand, but its common knowledge that sound detection and magnetic anomalies are a key to tracking and hunting enemy subs. Why would the U.S. readily disclose it's technology when there are Russian's and N. Korean subs in the ocean trying to better understand the U.S. detection capabilities? Titan was 5 guys on an adventure, what about the Greek migrant boat that capsized during the same week where 100s of people died or went missing...while trying to get to work or back home. The U.S. Navy doesn't care if you are rich, they are concerned about the safety and security of the U.S. and allies, last I checked the U.S. saved the UK ass during WWII as a result. The U.S. Navy didn't care who was rich in the UK, they just came to everybody's rescue. Be thankful the U.S. prioritizes such things and not rich people unfortunately paying an incompetent company to take them to one of the most dangerous places on the planet, an perhaps to be glorified and recalled more for a history tragic accident.

The way the carbon fiber was applied was just a spiral, not criss crossing pattern. The spiral pattern was not strong enough. It would have just needed a tiny crack or split to fail.

the carbon fiber was taking on water, this is why they were having excess speed going down, and difficulty rising toward the surface, the water penetration continued to increase, even after jetisoning the cage, balast weights, the water was too heavy, and finally the carbon fiber delaminated.

im sure they didnt want to just give up the search because they heard something that MIGHT be the sub imploding without sure evidence. plus it wouldnt really matter, they were gonna have to find it eventually rescue or recovery.

The most horrifying about Titan isn't the implosion, but being in a gloryfied elevator shaft for more than 2 hours with strangers. I can hardly stand going up or down more than one floor without feeling extremelly unconfortable.
