I really believe most mental illness is cause from believing lies of the enemy. I have experienced demonic presence around me.. and on me.. I’ve had 3 out of body experiences. (Wasn’t sure that’s what it was called at the time.) the first time I was not a follower of Christ the 2 other times I was a follower but in a desert place.. it was the same night for both times. The Word says that at the name of Jesus the enemy will flee.
My 3rd daughter experienced demonic torment through out her childhood till she was a teen. I wrote scripture on her walls and told her when the enemy came to speak the name of Jesus. I do t think that the enemy any longer messes with her. She has been set free from most of the fear struggles she had growing up. Praise the Lord that he protects His children!!! I’m so very thankful and grateful to the Lord Jesus !!

i’m not a christian and i dont necessarily believe possessions are real, but in my first year as a firefighter in brooklyn ny, we were called to a double murder in the back of a warehouse. i could see that the door had been broken into during the night and we found two women lying in pools of blood. they had clearly been dead for several hours. from the moment i got close to that door i had an overwhelming sense that evil was present and had been present that night. it was all over that room in a tangible sense. never before and never since have i felt that.

While praying with a young man at our dining room table he began manifesting and his face changed and he began to projectile vomit and seething. Came to find out later he was dealing with homosexuality. There is no doubt in my mind he was possessed. He didn't remember what was happening so much that if I didn't move his head he would have drowned in his own vomit. The Holy Spirit is able to do it and He can work through anyone who is filled.

Dr Gallagher is wrong. demonic oppression is extremely common. Everyone has demons bugging them to one degree or another. There are demons assigned to each person and then people can have others bothering them with either legal or illegitimate reasons. People can be bothered by demons because of: dabbling with the occult, blood oaths, sin, drugs, trauma, anesthesia, generational curses, etc. We all have demons. Even Christians can be oppressed.

There a few religions that call demons forth purposely to possess them because they think it gives them power or influence in this world and it may for a time, but there is always a price. A price that is never worth it in the end. People often think the demons who try to influence them by talking to them in their minds is their own thoughts.

While demons cannot read our thoughts, they can speak directly to us in our minds inaudibly. If people slow down their thoughts and learn to decipher these temptations, they will get better at discerning when they are being tempted versus when they have a thought of their own. Reading the Bible will also help this discernment. God's "voice" or the Holy Spirit will never contradict the Word. And God's voice is still and peaceful, a voice of reason that often surpasses your own knowledge/understanding.

The good news is that Christians cannot be possessed, but they can be oppressed. They already have the basis in their beliefs to combat the demonic and once they are exposed, they can be told to leave fairly easily. The person should know who they are in Christ and study verses dealing with how Jesus delivered Christians from their influence and sent them packing. It is useful to also gain knowledge of if the demon has a legal right to attach and if they do what it is. How did they come to enter the person's life and if it is through sin, the person must repent and ask God to forgive them, then the legal right is severed and they must leave in Jesus' name. Once a Christian goes through deliverance, they can do it on their own from then on and perhaps help others get clean and clear of demonic influence.
