In this episode of Central Hall, Kapil Sibal speaks to award-winning actor Sharmila Tagore about how the film industry has changed in her lifetime, whether any real transformation has taken place, what kinds of films get the most funding and how the portrayal and perceptions of women have developed.

One of the changes Tagore points out is the feeling of community in the industry, which she thinks no longer exists – and that is why, she believes, anti-establishment films are avoided by a large section of the mainstream industry. "You have to walk a tightrope here...if you attract the government's ire, you run the risk of your film not being released." She also argues, though, that there are people who continue to take those risks and make the kinds of films they want.
