I've.been wanting to see this commercial in its entirety for quite some time ever since I found that a portion was shown in the movie "The Buddy Holly Story"
Ответить"Spoon was invented for eating Jello!" 😂
ОтветитьThe point of calling something racist is to show when a stereotype demeans one group while warping the impressions of another. It's doesn't mean you can't appreciate the aesthetics of that media. I think the commenters are somewhat missing the point by defending the commercial as "a product of its time" because that doesn't mean it wasn't racist in 1958, it just means racist attitudes against Asians were comparably more common and more overlooked in 1958.
ОтветитьI say herro
I make jerro
Ela abriu o berreiro
ОтветитьA proud racist white breeds
ОтветитьThink about it.....why would people who eat with sticks invent something you need a fork to eat?
Ответитьpeople be hating on people other this commercial are so racist I'm caucasian white and I think is wrong
ОтветитьHow can he say present? Shouldn't that be plesent?
ОтветитьHope the things who made this "commercial" get cancer
ОтветитьIronic that this commercial appeared on "I Love Lucy" in 1956...and I'm amazed that people haven't complained about the stereotype that Ricky Ricardo could have become...
ОтветитьSpoon!
ОтветитьThat is a racist stereotype
ОтветитьSo I took myself the time to translate the Chinese text at the beginning and from what I understand, it means "Ten Kinds of Jello"
ОтветитьIs this racist because you think it's racist or is it racist because liberals tell you it's racist?
ОтветитьLike I said, poor Chinese baby
ОтветитьWell here ya go folks. "Throwback" is on the bandwagon along with people looking for reasons to retroactively crucify people of days gone by. Ironic that he calls himself "throwback." Good grief. Name-calling is just too easy. Calling it "very racist" because some people nowadays might call it that. Just feed go ahead and issue those retro-crucifying and criticising people more ammo. Jeeeez, get over it. Okay now go ahead and put a label on ME. ugh.
ОтветитьIgnorant commercial
ОтветитьWait till they buy jello again and then the jello comes alive, growing legs and attack them.
ОтветитьHow the fuck is this racist?
ОтветитьI'm more offended that they refer to a baby who clearly female as "he" lol
i can understand why this commercial was seen as racist though....it's a LITTLE cringy, but I've seen MUUUUUCH worse.
i thought it was more cute than anything
Voice over said "glape" flavor...
ОтветитьSomeone explain why is this commercial racist?
ОтветитьI am 63 years old and I can truthfully tell you NOBODY thought this commercial or many others which show asians or blacks as "racist". The difference is that back then nobody had skin so damn thin. Today all of the tree-hugging, global warming, PC crowd look to be offended and shout "racism" while in reality they don't know what racism truly is. Full of crap.
Ответить48 dislikes and counting from pissed off asians.
ОтветитьThe problem with a lot of people today (especially younger ones) is they don't take into consideration the phrase "product of their times." This was made back when people weren't as sensitive to racial stereotypes than they are now. I'm not condoning making fun of other races, mind you, but why can't people understand times were different in the 50's than they are now? Learn from history, people! Ahem. Sorry, just needed to rant there.
ОтветитьI find this spot insulting and highly offensive. Massive dislike..!
ОтветитьI love old commercials
ОтветитьAhahahahahahaha. Asian doesn't have a humanright :3
ОтветитьDeliberately depicting a race as ugly and stupid is of course racism and very reprehensible. But I see none of that in this commercial. Japanese, Korean, and Chinese cartoonists often depict themselves this way and nobody stands up to shriek "racism!" at them. Maybe it's not the art style which is in question. The moment we say, "Caucasians have no right to draw pictures of Asians--it's racism!", we are using race to disenfranchise a certain group of people, and that IS racism. We all have God-given racial characteristics and it's rather stupid to pretend that they don't exist. I showed this commercial to several Chinese friends. I asked them if they found it objectionable, and they asked me "Why would we?"
ОтветитьWhy are so many people offended? You guys act like these Asians bombed Pearl Harbor or something. Please everyone just welax.
ОтветитьPOOR CHINESE BABY
Ответитьjust because a commercial is based on chinese culture, dosent make it automatically racist!
ОтветитьI'm Asian and tbh this ad is cute. I'm not offended.
It's very understandable to why people find this racist. Well at the time it was released, ads like that are deemed acceptable in American TV. It was 1958.
If it was made today, obviously it will get pulled from broadcast.
rasist
ОтветитьYou can eat Jello with chopsticks. Geez.
Ответить"greatest western invention, THE SPOON!"
ОтветитьPeople are way to politically correct these days. Personally I see nothing wrong with this commercial.
ОтветитьIs this a kind of humor or just stereotyping chineses ?
ОтветитьIf you find this racist. You are just like me
Ответить10/10 for racism
Ответитьwhoa that was pretty racist ...
ОтветитьAs a member of the asian teletubi comunnity i feel offended by this.
ОтветитьMmm, you can really taste the racism.
ОтветитьAh the good old days, fuck political correctness.
ОтветитьSpoon was invented for eating Jell-O
ОтветитьThat's lacist.
