The first owner of the team, George Marshall was a Washingtonian but found a team in boston. He bought the remanats of the defunct newark tornadoes, to create the boston braves. He owned laundromats in DC and even had a pro basketball team called the washington laundrymen. Football was considered a northern sport and dc was considered a southern city. Despite in modern times, football being loved in the south and dc no longer being seen as southern. So he had the football team in boston in 1932. The team moved to the redsox stadium and was renamed redskins to draw in fans. After little success, he decided to move the team to his hometown.
