Question—-I just bought Topvision sound bar, how do I control the volume of commercials? I was told that a sound bar is the only way to reduce the louder volume of commercials. Thanks Jill

Great content man and very helpfull! I would like to ask something because I’m new in audio.
I just ordered:

4K 120Hz HDMI 2.1 Audio Extractor 2X1 VRR ALLM HDCP2.3 HDR10 ARC CEC Audio Extractor Switch 2 in 1 Out Audio Converter HDMI to HDMI SPDIF Optical Stereo L/R Dolby Digital EDID for PS5
for my ps5 and lg oled tv.

I would like to use it with my headphone amp and topping d70s dac. (in stereo format) I connect it the hdmi 2.1 cable to the ps5 and audio extractor. The other hdmi 2.1 cable goes to the lg tv and I connect my audio extractor with a good quality optical cable to my topping dac.
Will it be working? And may I get 192khz if I playing games or watch netflix on ps5?😅
Thanks the help and keep up the great work! Subscribed!

This is the best explanation I have come across. I really like Chris Majestic and Caleb Dennison, but this video did it for me and has been a great help. I have to explain this stuff as part of my job so I'm very grateful for your help and advice. Thanks Jonah!

LOL "loose a little bit of audio quality" Hello guy, you did not do your homework well again. The bandwith for audio in a HDMI-arc cable is 1 mbit/s for the audio. The bandwith in an HDMI eARC is 37 mbit/s, so it is really lossy when not using eARC. Use an ax on a tree or something that suits your beard and competense. You need HDMI eARC all the way for not loosing quality in the HDMI ARC cables. Weakest link in the chain.

I have a new 2023 LG TV with HDMI arc; question is can I send back to my 2009 Yamaha RX-V3900? Does the receiver also have to support HDMI arc as well or will it properly decode from one of it's HDMI inputs? Second, the TV is smart; seems that the TV should become the source selector for my various devices, Firestick, Blu-ray player, etc. instead of the receiver. Anyone?

Bullshit. Dolby and/or DTS are encoded into the stereo channels. All you need is a decent (older) amp with a Dolby Pro-Logic chip to pry the extra channels from the stereo canals. I have a Denon 7x145Watt suround amp and a 1995 Pioneer VSX 804 4.1 surround amp and guess which one geives the purest surround mix. The old pioneer. Its Pro-Logic chip tackles eveything up to Dolby Atmos and sends the sound through the right channels, while the Denon (Dolby Atmos and DTS X certified) only reads surround as "stereo" and refuses to read sound other than its own setting says. The Denon will go out the window as soon as I have money to buy a 'decent' surround amp. And any HDMI cable will work with 4K or ARC/eARC signals.

Hi Jonah, I am a new subscriber. I just bought a Bose 900 sound bar, a 700 Bose bass unit and Bose 700 surround speakers. I assembled it over this past weekend. I had to choose between a HDMI Arc cable or a Digital Audio cable. I choose the latter. My LG TV has two HDMI Arc connections. After watching your video it sounds like the Arc cable is better. Please advise. Thank you. Craig

Great video! You have earned a new subscriber! In fact the reason I came across your video is because I have just recently bought a Sonos Arc and connected it to my PC/Desktop through HDMI eArc; At first it was working fine for a couple of days and all of a sudden it stopped for no apparent reason, I tried switching over to optical cable but no luck. I am currently using Windows 10 with the latest drivers and updates, my PC is also of the latest specs and updated so is my phone and Sonos app on it. I have no idea why the ARC isn't working with my PC even though it works just fine playing music from my phone. How did you get your ARC to work with your PC? Please help!

Hi Jonah. I just bought a 2022 LG 55” C2 OLED. I also just purchased a LG sound bar that has Meridian, Dolby Atmos, DTS:X , it’s a 3.1.2ch sound bar. My question is, should I run an optical cable that comes with it, or use a regular HDMI cable, for the best sound? Thanks👍 Mark O.

Question... If my e-Arc is on hdmi 3 input on my tv, and I plug in my PS5 and Xbox Series X into hdmi 1 and 2, can the eArc on hdmi 3 carry the dolby atmos signal from every hdmi input on the tv to the soundbar?

Reason being is I want Dolby Vision displayed on the tv with variable refresh rate, 4k @ 120 Hz and ALLM latency features.

Hi, I have a new LG OLED tv with eARC and Dolby Atmos , but I have a Onkyo TX NR626 audio receiver which has a ARC only. When I connect both the Audio is only recognised as Optical Audio showing PCM only. But if i connect my PS 5 directly to Onkyo the sound works great. How do I get a Dolby 7.1 on my receiver which has ARC(only) on its HDMI port ?

I'm using a 1.3 HDMI cable . Will a new 2.1 cable solve the issue ?

I have been having issues with ARC for a while. I have a Samsung Q90T and I've plugged the HDMI in the TV ARC port and in my Denon AVRX2700H and it worked for a while and now it stopped working and now its only showing on the tv under the setup Optical and tv speaker only?? not sure why this isn't working? I've disconnected the HDMI and reconnected it and still does not work? It was working for a while and last night i went on HULU and as soon as I launched that app it stopped working. I thought I would see if you could provide me some guidance.
Thank you. Ed

Brilliant, this the only video I've found that truly explains in understandable English eARC vs ARC and what it does, and props for admitting your errors. However I am still confused and would like to ask the following. My tv is eARC but my soundbar isn't its only ARC-

a) Should I disable eARC on my tv if you can?
b) What effect does the above have on HDMI CEC ?

c) I have connected a cable box and a HD Blu Ray to my soundbar using 2.1 HDMI cables what source should I select on the tv and the soundbar, eARC, ARC or HDMI 1?

I think that's what I'm trying to understand.

I have an LG C1 & just got the Bose 900. (Before seeing this video) sound is great but I am returning the Bose as the audio is out of sync with the TV.

I have tried a bunch of settings on both units. Seems I should have got a soundbar with HDMI input, then plugged in the fire stick to this and not use the TV apps? Is that the preferred method, to use the input on the sound bar so sound is direct?

I have an LG NANO91 TV connected to my Marantz SR6007 Receiver via HDMI ARC, all seemed at first to work fine for broadcast signal TV with 5.1 sound, however when I go to Netflix or Amazon Prime sound is only Stereo, I have tried all sorts of settings and no go.
The only way I can get 5.1 sound from the TV to my Receiver from Digital TV and Netflix is with the Optical cable, Netflix sound is Dolby Digital Plus, and this TV and my Receiver support this.
My old Samsung TV was 7 years old and worked fine, but this LG is in my view crap. I have been on to LG and am getting nowhere.

This was such a highly informative video and it is so refreshing to see a content creator fess up to a previous error in information and correct it. Kudos to you! I was wondering if you or any others here have seen issues with Pioneer receivers when eARC is enabled. My receive shuts off a few seconds after turning it on. The problem disappears when I disable eARC on my Samsung TV and just use optical. Really annoying as I would love to use my remote to control volume (lost my receiver remote ages ago). Any idea why the receiver would shut off after a few seconds with eARC? This is driving me CRAZY!

I just got a brand new Denon Ds217, and it has HDMI eArc, and HDMI. It also has Dolby Atmos, but you have to use HDMI eArc .My TV is fairly new, and it has that choice in the setup menu, too. No matter what I did, I couldn't get it to play sound, until I plugged in the Optical, but The Atmos doesn't work with Optical. Thanks for the video. I'm not Tech Ignorant, but normally, everything just works. My receiver had zero problems playing back, with eArc. But, most of the time, we just want a soundbar, with the Sub, for watching TV.

Great video! I've been wondering about HDMI arc/earc compatibility. My new TV is earc-only and the soundbar is arc-only. When I connected them it made a horrible loud buzzing sound. You're saying they can be connected, so I'm asking if there is a setting on the TV that needs to be changed, or some other solution?
