The main reason is financial investment companies buying up affordable housing and trying to maximize investments profits. This should be illegal.

In my opinion real estate agents have contributed to these disgusting greedy high rents cos they have been nudging the landlords to up their rents so they get higher commissions. Been seeing these happening for years.

Increasing prices to compensate for shortage of supply. It's basic economics. Canada shouldn't have taken this much immigrants in short period of time. You guys don't have the infrastructure. If the situation continues you can become third world in no time.

I remember 2010 my rent was $720 per month.
And now 2024 the same place is now $1455 which is bad but not that bad compared to some place

Apartments and property has been commoditized. Large investment companies and private equity investors have bought up large numbers of apartments as investments. Some companies are international, owning thousands of apartments around the world. They market themselves on their return of investment. That 10, 15, 20% return has to come from the rent tenants play. The drive for higher return with the higher demand has pushed up rents.

in Canada here is crazy wages are not enough to rent a dog house any more the taxes are to high and rising the rents Canada is pricing these cheap rentals to high and no one can afford to live and the wrong people are buying up properties and expecting someone to pay the mortgage so they don't have to the rental control board has to protect the renter and the land lord both ....rent should not be paying someone else's mortgage

The government needs to focus on this issue than selling beers in grocery stores. This more important than the convenience off buying beer in stores. The government MUST AND SHOULD implement rent control. Who has money for booze when they can’t afford to put a roof over their heads. Come on Mr Doug Ford, you are not thinking about the people who voted you in. Plus you need to amend the Landlord & Tenant Act to protect both parties, especially for squatters who don’t pay their rent. Hire more staff at the board to get rid of the long waiting list for hearings. It’s totally out of control.

Building more homes and apartments will not happen overnight and it will not work if the cost of renting is going up and up and out of reach for tenants. Get it together man. It’s outrageous and acceptable and we fed up and more and more there will be homeless people on the streets. It’s disgusting and unacceptable. Shame on you and our government for sidestepping this very serious problems we are facing with rent going up and up. There are many seniors who are on a fix income who can’t afford the cost of living much less the higher rents.

How much does it cost to live in a nursing home. That is also you due diligence to fix too. How will the government afford to pay for people who are on disability income or subsidized housing? This is more important than buying beer in a flipping corner stores. WHAT THE HELL, are you so out of touch with the reality people are facing. Get with the program Mr. Ford!!!!! 😮

The only affordable housing left is a (1 foot × 1 foot × 6 feet) box 6 feet underground.

Unfortunately, rental prices and homeownership has gone up everywhere including where I live in California.

The culture (if not sacrifice) of the new generations is changing to no descendants in part for this elevated cost of life, sacrificing as well any possibilities of saving money, which was supposed to be one other third of the income to have to bear these rents. People are forced to either live together to share the cost of living, or be gone from the expensive cities.

Need to be laws put down on the landlords and charges need to be made .
