Ceres - Kickstarter Playthrough

I just started my morning with coffee, and now I get to pair it with a new video from Before You Play?? 😁

Normally, I watch play throughs just long enough to get the gist if the game. But you guys do it very well and explain things thoroughly (without getting long winded!) so I almost always watch the entire video! Thanks!!!

This game, Beyond the Sun and Lunar Rush (which I backed) all have this crunchy, "think about the long game" space exploration vibe which I'm loving! Great playthrough, and those contracts in the end made all the difference! The strategic 'multiple ways to win" mechanics are also really cool.

This game looks very fun, tho a bit confusing with all the symbols. I guess there are different valid strategies for it. I was a bit worried that the probes will be the game changer, but I am glad I was wrong. I tend to not like games that make you do something in order to be competitive (like do whatever you like but if you don't do this track / action / whatever you basically cannot win). I also find it confusing why some resources are tracks but some are tokens... O.o
Anyway, good game again. ^^

This is a very interesting game. Its Tapestry (resource spending) meets Obsession (meeple use) meets Barrage (asteroid belt). Well,,,, that's what I see in mechanics.

Despite my love for astronomy, I'm not usually interested in space themed board games. IDKY. That said, your playthrough has showcased a game I would have completely ignored! To back or not to back is now the question... 😅

Chalk up another KS project that I ended up backing because of Before You Play. Great work on this Game Preview everyone.

Looked very appealing during the teach, but the gameplay mainly unveiled a giant circular resource exchange engine with no greater purpose and a theme hardly rising. Disappointed 😞

How many buildings can you construct? Can you build on top of the four buildings you start with?

What happened to the Roshambo for picking first player?! It's not Before You Play without it!

Havent gotten that emotionally invested in a playthrough in a long time *whew*. Great to see that money/docking bay strat pay off in the long term (especially when several 'less optimal' moves were made).

Neat preview. Another small production thing is that I think Monique's dark pieces don't show up very well on some parts of the boards so hope they make another colour which contrasts better against a black background. Your table made it even more obvious so valuable playtesting haha.



Congrats to Monique, though I do wonder if that Reserve action on contracts might be too good as monopolising those can cut off the opponents scoring options. The Asteroid Mining card also seems a bit too good as harvesting from two Asteroids is easily more resources than any other card even if there is some setup required. To be fair Navieen could have used these to his advantage too.

There have been a lot of changes since the kickstarter prototype so this video is a bit outdated in small details unfortunately (nothing against it's great quality though):
- you don't get influence when constructing buildings (by using alloy)
- you get a discount of 1 alloy instead of getting it back (makes a difference when yo uwant to build something and have no alloy)
- lev 1 construction benefit triggers also when you build your top outpost - you get the benefit twice - when you upgrade you get a single benefit
- the blue favor tile gives additional discount of 2 ice every time you launch satelite this round
- Leader assistant token also give a production in one building

Other than that what a great vid yet again!
