❤️❤️ the D&D shirt!
ОтветитьThanks for showing the hamburger comparisons That was very interesting.
ОтветитьWe are fortunate to have several stores in our area, like you do, to be able to shop the various sales. It's something you really have to spend some time on, or else a food budget will bust the bank. Great video.
ОтветитьGreat idea about making those burgers smaller nobody really needs that big portion of meat plus as you said with the prices of groceries going so high we are going to need to ration our meat out I find myself making more casseroles that stretch the meat further. Great shopping haul also good idea to add a little extra back into the budget for stocking up.
ОтветитьThe hamburger comparison was interesting for sure. I used to make my own burgers to freeze and got away from it, but I really should do it again. Hubby keeps buying ground beef so it would be nice to have some burgers to go on the BBQ. Heck, our BBQ is right outside our door so may kick hubby out to grill even before it warms up lol. I remember one time I got a costco pack of ground beef and made over 20 HALF POUND burgers for just about $20 (hubby was body building at the time, so more meat was better lol)
ОтветитьYour prices are amazing out there compared to here. But I am shopping mostly the sales and being creative with what I can get. I love whole chickens for the soup factor! Because I’m cooking for one, sometimes convenience foods make sense but pretty much I only get those at Flashfood or if I’m buying a rotisserie chicken. I got 4 packs of 2 beyond burger patties at Flashfood this week for a grand total of $3.10. That will give me 8 dinners for $3.10 with a bit of mushroom and maybe some cheese and a side salad.
I freaked out and stocked up my pantry over the last 2 weeks. So that blew both Feb and March budgets but I will extract that and keep to a more limited budget, otherwise.
Great demonstration on the burgers - especially thinking about portion sizes.
Maltodextrin is a sugar substitute but is actually worse than sugar for anybody diabetic. You really have to watch out for it as it is often hidden in foods. I am really surprised to see it in a hamburger patty!
ОтветитьA great video, Melanie! You always have great insight!
ОтветитьThanks so much for the comparison. I found that very helpful and enlightening! Prices...ugh!! Here I am, trying to save money while meeting all the needs of the different family members and then prices have to change the game! I really love your videos and am already looking forward to the next installment! Have a great week, Melanie!
ОтветитьAnother awesome video! I was able to score some amazing bread/bakery and meat deals on flashfood last week but we needed some pantry staples and ouch! Finally saw the inflation hard core. Adjusting my shopping to minimize it though...all thanks to your tip!!
ОтветитьI started making food from scratch due to prices but also additives this includes bread products. I have allergies including soy which is in many processed/convenience foods. I need to up my food budget since some foods have greatly increased such as butter. Thanks for your videos Melanie. We need Canadian content. Wendy from Regina.
ОтветитьHi Mel, hope you and your family are well. I really enjoyed this video, thank you .You are doing a great job, I am so inspired. I have the exact same press, your burgers looks sooooo good. Sending warm wishes. 🌻
ОтветитьMelanie, LOVED this. Thank you for sharing it. I truly think people have gotten so used to convenience foods and take out, that they don’t realize how truly expensive and unhealthy it is, physically and for their pocketbooks. Yes, it takes some time to make things, but it also takes time to shop for those convenience foods, and they cost more! Be safe and stay well. Catherine
ОтветитьThank you kindly for sharing! Amazing!
ОтветитьThanks for the comparison. Really helpful.
ОтветитьReduced,on sale and free. Win win.
ОтветитьReally enjoying all your budget hauls. I shop almost exactly like you do lol...if you ever want Ohio prices we should compare sometime🌸
ОтветитьHi Melanie 🤗 That was a great comparison you did there. I don't eat meat but my husband does and he likes to get a couple of pounds of extra lean ground beef when it's on sale and he will add some spices, a few tablespoons of ketchup and a small amount of unsweetened applesauce (one of those small cups) to keep it all moist. He will BBQ all of them and then we will wrap them individually in plastic wrap when they're still warm. The plastic wraps shrinks around them this way and makes a nice airtight seal. These get frozen and he eats them when he likes. Just a quick defrost in the microwave and then a reheat for 30 seconds and it's good to go! We usually give some to his mom when we to visit her as she lives in a condo and has no access to a BBQ.I also like burgers and make my own plant based ones. It takes some time and a lot of ingredients but I make a big batch and bake them and freeze individually. My father-in-law thought it was a real meat burger when he saw me eating one - he tried one and liked it so much I sent him home with some.
