How to focus when shooting scenery, cityscape or landscape video where you are moving the camera and don't have a particular human, animal or still subject.
ОтветитьWhy is this video not on the tomorrows filmmakers paid course? I've just spent ages searching and the course doesn't have a single video on manual focusing. If I hadn't checked resources outside the course I wouldn't have known this was a thing. If the course is supposed to be beginner friendly, which it does claim to be, then this kind of thing needs to be included.
ОтветитьMy focus peaking sucks
ОтветитьThank you so much
ОтветитьThen why they invented autofocus🤭
ОтветитьManual focus is essential. When I first started I relied on it extensively. It was only until I had to shoot on blackmagic cameras exclusively that I learned how to pull focus manually. Keeping the same distance, using focus peaking, magnification and understanding f stop to get the depth of field I needed. It’s just like riding a bike now. I use the Sony FX3. So I’m back to using autofocus again but I will occasionally use manual focus when I really need a subject highlighted, or I’m doing shots that result in unreliable focus such as reveal shots or crucial moments where the camera can not shift focus under any circumstance. Autofocus in modern cameras is incredible but it’s just a tool. And people need to learn the limitations.
Ответитьالسلام عليكم هل يوجد شرح با الغة العربية
Ответитьwhere can I find gun props
ОтветитьDid Dwight wear his sweater inside out?
ОтветитьHello there
I'm here from India & willing to buy the course you offering.

😔 p̲r̲o̲m̲o̲s̲m̲
ОтветитьThis is brilliant , thank you 🙏 I actually recently brought a follow focus for my gimbal
ОтветитьNot so good instruction. I already unsubscribed.
ОтветитьWhere is the best place to find royalty free raw stock video for editing practice?
ОтветитьJust get a sony instead getting all this accessories it's more compact and will cost about the same. Use the advantage of technology.

ОтветитьGreat tips...thanks man 🙌
Ответитьthank you so much.. really helpful skill and tips
ОтветитьFocus in Panasonic cameras is the worst lol
ОтветитьI meet people and sometimes even work with people who use autofocus majority of the time. It makes me sad, especially when I hear their career is somehow doing better. Remember: it’s not what you know, it’s who you know.
ОтветитьBrand of EVF cup please - or link for shop :D
ОтветитьIf you’re a camera op and need a 15 minute video on how to get something in focus, man I wouldn’t want you on a set
ОтветитьThis video came at the perfect time. I actually started with manual focus lenses so I've been learning how to auto-focus recently. I made the mistake of trusting the auto-focus a little too much on a recent project which resulted in an out of focus interview subject. Won't be making that mistake again!
ОтветитьI cam op'd for a short film recently and the director insisted I use auto focus the entire time from start to finish. Tbh it was a really frustrating shoot even if the camera in question (FX3) had a pretty decent AF.
Ответитьme, who always like the f1.8 depth 🫠
ОтветитьI'm confused, he says he's never used autofocus, but then says he sometimes uses the autofocus attachment at the end of the video.
Either way, good information :) The short throw of photo lenses is a big turnoff.
Justice, which cameras have "Focus Peaking"? can't seem to find it on my 6D.
ОтветитьHow to focus without autofocus: last tip - use auto focus lol.
ОтветитьYou can also use an iphone with lidar (I think 12+ pro and max) for continuous AF. This even works on BM pocket cams with certain lenses (including the 18-35 art.) Additionally, Tiffen or Tilta makes a focus ring that matches your lens size so you don't have knobs and excess gears flopping around. It's 8 bucks for 2 of them.
ОтветитьI don't understand using dry erase if you don't have a focus puller. You need to watch your framing (unless you're locked down). There are many low price ff units with hard stops so you don't have to watch for the lines.
Ответитьthis guy gives me big-time youth pastor energy
ОтветитьThanks for this!
ОтветитьI love the peaking method it's really helps a lot whenever you're shooting out door under sunlight but I didn't understand the evf method but now I do and I'm gonna take that to consideration 👍
ОтветитьDo you have to rebalance when you change the zoom on the camera?
ОтветитьI hate the reliance on autofocus. When people I hire as cam ops give me footage, it invariably loses focus at the worst possible moment. This is with cameras like the R5C and other canon flagships, and Sony FX3s etc... whats worse is that they donteven have any manual focus skills or accessories, they use the back screen, not a larger monitor with better focus peaking and they dont have a follow focus. If they do ever use manual, they turn the lens ring with their hand. Its a skill too though, you need to practice and get good at it to be able to track with a shallow depth of field, and no one has developed that skill, so even if they had the right equipment, it wouldn't really matter. When I started, AF was still unuseable, and I invested in Panasonic anyway, so I decided to shoot manual from the beginning. Either on a gimabl with a focus wheel and motor (I use this A LOT) a follow focus device, or with a wireless focus puller. I've shot literally every job I've ever done with manual focus and never had an issue. I'm really glad I learned that skill, and you should to. There's a reason you dont see autofocus on a film set.
That being said. I would love to have the option for specific situations, and maybe one day I will. I might get the new ronin 3D focus system. I'm not against it if it works, but you should still be developing manual focus skills if you are a cam op, not relying on AF.
I only use my Voigtlanders with my gh5s. They are a dream to pull focus with.
ОтветитьI know what AF means...
ОтветитьThanx... Good stuff.
ОтветитьOne of the hardest things to do in cinematography is focus pulling and of course the best examples can be seen in long takes and sequence plans
ОтветитьNice video..
ОтветитьAnother video to watch a million times, the best channel by far
ОтветитьRight as I was thinking about this, this video pops up. Good timing 😅
ОтветитьI am using DJI RS3 Pro Combo with DJI LiDAR for my BMPCC 6K PRO and whole thing works absolutely gorgeous
ОтветитьAnd a better opción for the second method, the follow focus, is the “Focus Transition” option, available for Lumix cameras. I also use this method very often.
ОтветитьVery good video and well explained but my method that I always use with my Lumix GH5 MII is much faster and simpler. First have the manual focus activated (obvious 😁), and also have the "Touch Focus" option activated and of course the "Peaking Focus" option. And what I do once I have my subject is press the "Touch Focus" on the camera screen (I don't even look at the viewfinder), and I already have my subject focused and ready to continue with any movement, always keeping the same distance from the subject, as you have explained in the video.
