Couple of things Simon, 1st, your writers know you soooo well... they respond to your unscripted comments in the main script.... 2nd, the way you narrate, is supreme. 💙

Most first world countries no longer use the “Reed Technique” because of the frequency of false confessions. Why on earth does the USA still use it to interrogate suspects?!!?

I think that there have always been serial killers. Ted Bundy became a media sensation & infamous. Some “copy cats” (serial killers) after Bundy even admitted that he was their inspiration for not attempting to hide their crimes…quite the opposite! Since dna they are (mostly) back to hiding the bodies, rather than displaying them in a grotesque way, as in the 1980’s & early 1990’s.

They used to claim that nearly all serial killers were white men. DNA has proven that they come in all skin colours & nationalities. Society & the police must care about the victims to even suspect that a serial killer is active. Sex workers & black women weren’t considered fully human back in the day…😢

When I see dead bodies in the streets or in an alley, I just assume it’s a mannequin. Especially if it’s only a leg or arm.

There were many streets in English towns with That name (Gropec**t Lane or Street), unfortunately all seem to have been renamed by prissy Victorians. There are plenty of other amusing names though, South Yorkshire Police have an operations complex in Sheffield on Letsby Avenue.

Cleveland author and historian John Stark Bellamy, in his book The Maniac in the Bushes, hypothesizes that there wasn't a single Mad Butcher, but they were just similar murders, linked when they shouldn't have been. Also, the fact that only two of the bodies were found in the Kingsbury Run area.
Also, back in August, the Cuyahoga County ME exhumed some of the remains to get DNA evidence to identify the victims.

The 2 bodies left in eyeshot of Ness's office window weren't fresh, they had been refrigerated according to the Coroner.
Guess what a Hobo and transient encampment doesn't have? A Refrigerator, and definitely not a refrigerator big enough to store two bodies in.
Guess where there was a refrigerator that size?
The Coroner's Office that Dr Sweeney's office was next door to, in which Sweeney was seen on occasions despite having no business being there.
That alone is some pretty strong circumstantial evidence in my humble opinion.

If you go to Cleveland and hang out in the bars you're bound to hear someone say "Sweeney Did It!" Which is a euphemism for "I did it, everybody knows I did it, and, I got away with it."

You pronounce Cuyahoga better than my professors in Virginia 😂.

I’m absolutely shocked I’ve never heard of this story though 😵‍💫. You could also include the story you did about Lakewood, since it’s the next town over and a major of the crime happened downtown

Was always fascinated by the Torso Murders. My dad helped set up that display in the Cleveland Police Museum, and said those death masks creeped him out.

And it's pronounced "Kai-ah-HO-gah" River.

Many people die by hanging from low-mounted items such as doorknobs or bed frames. Epp Stein was one of them. It doesn't need to be an object taller than the person so long as there is enough of their weight free to cose off the trachea. Some people choose those locations because their intentions aren't lethal (i.e., autoerotic asphyxiation) or maybe because they are building in a precaution if they change their mind. For me, tthese among the saddest cases.

Having lived 20 miles south of Cleveland my entire life, I find it endlessly entertaining to listen to you mangle the pronunciation of the Cuyahoga River. It’s a pain, and I totally understand getting it wrong, but you keep getting it wrong differently every time you say it. You actually almost got it right once this episode.

Keep fighting the good fight, given how many crazies Cleveland seems to have, you’ll have more episodes to get it right.
