Will it lose the "all 8 at once" emergency start capability?
ОтветитьIf it works, don't mess with it. Well, re-engine is a no-brainer. Keep flying, big ugly fat ..er.. feller.
ОтветитьAnyone else feel like BrickTop from Snatch voiced this?!
ОтветитьI love the B-52 ! Former USAF F-4C crew chief
ОтветитьIt is BUF, not BUFF. There is no "Fat" in it.
ОтветитьJust start making more B-52s. You can’t tell me it’s impossible.
ОтветитьBoeing haven't made new B-52s since the 60s if im not mistaken. The B52 must be very robust to be able to last 100 years.
Ответитьwould filling a B-52 with hundreds or thousands of small FPV drones like are used in the Russio-Ukraine war work better than carpet bombing?
ОтветитьKudos to the UK cousins for fitting these duffers out with new RR engines. Brings back memories of how the Rolls allowed the P51 Mustang to come into its own as a dream machine.
ОтветитьTAKE OF AOC FTO JIA FOR
ОтветитьI wonder how they justified keeping 8 engines, when 4 could have done the job easily.
ОтветитьIt’s like the f15 of bombers
ОтветитьMarine Corp Air wing, I can't wait, as for me her new mounting engines/Rolls Royce is like a boy waiting for Christmas. Do it right, but just know we're all waiting and are very excited! Plus bless the men who are flying her and those who flew her.
ОтветитьRed Alert (Dr. Strangelove) B-52K with defensive missiles
ОтветитьDon't scoff at the old stuff, dials and manual controls; they are emp proof. Modern electronics are especially vulnerable to emp.
ОтветитьIn the picture this video supplied, the BUFF with the new engines was illustrated without its TV and Inferred boobs. I hope the new 'bumps' added to top for a satellite link are JP4 proof since the air-refueling port is just in front of them. Further, if the illustration is accurate, why is the vertical tail fin taller than the 'H' and the 'G' I flew over Vietnam and SAC alert after the war. It seems to be as tall as the 'F' I flew during training. And as tall as the 'D's as well...
ОтветитьYou have to say, The B-52 is probably one of, if not the greatest pieces of aviation design ever. It just keeps flying and has seemingly endless utility in its role as America's 'Big Stick' of menace. 70 years and maybe another 30 left in her. What a great airplane! The airframes must be like human bone by this time...after a while, it will be replaced with newer bits and pieces LOL
ОтветитьAPU and new ejection seats also in update. No Kmodel.Just J. model.
ОтветитьB-52 entered 1956 not 1955.
ОтветитьGrandpa BUFF will live forever!
Ответитьthe B-52 will outlive all of humanity except the people inside. its final mission is dropping the ordinance that destroys all life on Earth. if there's any place for the crew to land, they will starve to death soon after, and the buff shall inherit the earth.
Ответить"Gather around kids..."
ОтветитьI'm 66 my goal is to out live the B52
ОтветитьBig Ugly Forever-Friend
ОтветитьI suppose they couldnt just fit a more powerful engine as its not designed for it? Why else stick with the same power output
ОтветитьJeez, still slinging 8 engines even after an engine upgrade. Hopefully the new engines won't leave those smoke trails.
Damn, I really wanted to see a 4-engine BUFF, but not in my lifetime I guess and I'm not even middle-aged.
Upgraded B 52J models will fly into the 2050s.
ОтветитьWhat an iconic aircraft
ОтветитьWith all this talk of missle trucks. Wouldnt it be an option to fit the b52 with missle magazines (like for tomahawks just smaller) of aim 260 missles using the superior range to just send a fuckton of missles at any given target before the b52 even comes into range of their missles sorta like an air to air ac-130
ОтветитьWhy is the re-engine program for the B-52 still using eight engines instead of four? I'd think that there are available modern engines that could replace the legacy engines at a 1-2 ratio and be far superior in terms of power, efficiency, maintenance, cost, etc...?
Is it a size thing (modern turbo fans are much larger, maybe there isn't enough clearance under the wing to fit a single large engine rather than two smaller ones)? Or is it about the control interfaces that make it simpler to use eight...
What am I missing?
Who will replace the Raider?
Fake: newer Bombers
Real: Nexon B-52S Stratofortress
Not until the last two b52's face off in a sword fight, with the winner beheading the loser, will it be retired from service.
ОтветитьIf we had no collapsed we might have done the same with the Vulcan and the Victor.
ОтветитьBack in the 90's when I was a kid, I wrote Boeing a letter asking about aircraft they had in development at the time. They replied with a pack of laminated cards with information about these aircraft, one being a potential upgrade for the B-52, which it's main change was replacing it's 8 jets with 4 turbofans. Obviously this never happened, I'm actually surprised something like that isn't what they're doing now.
Also, I've been lucky enough to climb inside a B-52 here in Michigan, the Yankee Airforce, of which I used to be a member, has one. The inside has a most unique smell that I can only describe as 50 years of sweat, leather and coca-cola.
American engineering at it’s finest. Congratulations Boeing.
Ответитьwait wait wait.... an american bomber with british engines?
ОтветитьConsidering that they only built 21 b-2's I believe with 3 losses
ОтветитьBuild new B52s?
ОтветитьWhen you have a perfect design no changes are needed
ОтветитьHow come nobody gives credits to the KC-135 Stratotankers ?? Theyve been operational almost as long as the B-52'S. The B-52'S would have been useless without them !!
ОтветитьIt's still a perfect standoff cruise missile truck!
ОтветитьB-52 crews keep it up longer , penetrate deeper and carry a heavier load ... 😋
Ответитьthe B-52Just/Kidding thats the nickname
ОтветитьSo the B 52 is a 5th Generation bomber
ОтветитьHeavy bombers are more compatible to ship these days in terms of life expectancy
ОтветитьAs long as the wing spars survive. The buff will fly. It does it's Job VERY well.
ОтветитьAs I'm watching this again a week or so later I wonder, "Ya' think the Tu-95 has been similarly maintained and upgraded?"
ОтветитьThey are going to fly this thing until the wings fall off.
Ответить
