Great review. Thank you very much David. I am ordering it now though I know it's overpriced. But it is what it is. We cannot regulate the market...
Could you comment on the mudguards? Weight etc

I want an endurance bike, not a slow bike. this could be a valid option, but I always think of the aethos with more relaxed geometries. Let's see if 2024 will bring the hoped-for innovations

I think Giant really nailed the ultimate allrounder-go anywhere bike with this Defy.

It's a dreadful colour, big turn off, I suppose it's an improvement on matt carbon! I've always believed road bikes should be colourful, to be seen on the road and have character.

Surprised to discover that the primary difference geo-wise between a Defy and a Revolt is headtube angle (and thus wheelbase). No doubt the compliance features and tire clearances are different but still interesting.

I’m 62 years old and own a Giant Defy Advanced 2 which I bought back in 2019. I love the bike, I renewed a few parts on it, rear free hub, bottom crank bearings and the usual brake pads which I did all myself. Its quite easy to work with. The only thing I couldn’t do myself was the bottom head bearing as the cables run through it. The top one was easy. I put it into the Giant shop for that. The 11/34 is great for me as I live in Scotland and there are a lot of hills around my area. I keep meaning to get mudguards for it. It’s coming up to 5 years now since I bought it and it still looks good and in very good condition.

Would you recommend those giant mud guards or is it better to go for the classic SKS or similar? What would you buy if it was your money?

Thanks a lot for the early impressions video! Though, I believe comparing M size Defy with 56 size Roubaix is misleading. M size defy should be compared with 54 Roubaix, the difference in Stack is 27mm then.

very nice bike. Wish there were more videos about flat bar bikes like the Canyon Roadlite 6 (2023) with its Deore XT 12 gears drivetrain, 1X chainring 46T, and 10-51T cassette, so suited for basically anything. It's light, it's fast, very well priced. I got the Pathlite 6 (not the Roadlite, but that one is more performance oriented), and I have a road bike plus a MTB and the concept is excellent

I can't tell if this is clever positioning between race bikes and endurance bikes or if this is no man's land where it's neither a race bike nor an endurance bike. Almost like a gateway drug to endurance bikes.

Got a 2023 Giant advanced 2 in October. I have upgraded the wheels (DT Swiss pr1600 with Goodyear F1 tires), front chainset (Ultregra) and saddle (Selle Italia novus boost carbon) and I love it. Had spinal surgery in 2011 and wanted something a bit more relaxed than a race /aggressive geometry. Really happy with my choice and the advice given by my LBS to make my decision as I initially wanted a TCR. It's still fast enough for me , climbs well and rides problem free. Plan on getting some deeper wheels in the spring but other than that I will leave it as it is. Been using the "stock wheels" and tires on really wet/muddy lane rides through out winter and despite being heavier they are ok

I wish it was feasible for Giant to offer a few more geo options, as for me, it’s become longer and lower than ideal. I suspect the majority of bike fits would intro quite a few spacers.
Pearsons Forge is an interesting frame as they have used a lot of bike fit data to result in a different format

@abhimawa1

If one reverses the logic & time, one will see the TCR as franken bike → the (rear) geometry of a Propel, with tubes profile of a Defy.
Going back to the topic, IMO the Defy w/ Ultegra is highly sensible; geometry, components selection, gearing choice, even the cockpit (unless one can be comfortable being stretched for hours). It’s like a decent GT car that can take us almost everywhere. The simple tech also does make a lot of sense. Coming from MTB, I started with several full suspension bikes and settled on hardtail in the end, as the complexity of the suspension gimmicks just make little sense to me. This Defy should be the one bike one will ever need to have fun & stay healthy (attractive look, all-day comfort position, toyotta-like robustness, no drama).
Nice video, Dave! 👍

At age 77 I sold my race bike and bought a BMC Roadmachine. Absolutely no regrets! It’s probably the best riding bike I’ve owned and that is partly due to the fact I had a full professional bike fit. I think it would be great to compare the Defy with the Roadmachine as they seem to lean a little more to the Sport side of the equation.
