Sometimes, ok often, the writing is also really cheesy/ melodramatic and cliched. It got a bit better when the series switched to Sanderson. After the central romance with <irritable, always tugging on her plait for some reason> resolved I had zero drive to finish the series (I mean I did but ran outta steam)
ОтветитьOmg so true.
ОтветитьThe slog is a myth lol
ОтветитьOMG this was hilarious! Also, I totally almost disagree with you XD, it is awesome, except for the parts that are not 😢
ОтветитьOne thing you get for reading the whole series? Clout.
ОтветитьI'm a 57 year old professional, I should be annoyed by this, instead I'm laughing. I need more videos please. This is your favorite series, then why so few videos? Thank you for making me laugh today 😊
Ответить"I'm talking about Gawyn" 🤣
ОтветитьYes. Just watch the show instead. Way better and at least you dont have to know countless of sub characters that add nothing to the story.
ОтветитьOH come on the slough is 2 books, maybe 2 and a half. It's not that bad. Ok maybe it is...
ОтветитьI love wheel of time. But this is so accurate I’m dying laughing
ОтветитьI stopped at book 7... after reading AGoT and Stormlight Archive it was impossible to get through WoT
ОтветитьI've never been able to make myself read the last books that Brandon Sanderson wrote for Robert Jordan.😢 It just wasn't the same.
Now whenever a book series looks interesting to me, I look up the author first, to see if they are relatively young and healthy, and sure to finish the books they are writing.😅
I’ve tried to finish the series.. never managed it. Glad the TV series is good. I’ve enjoyed far better series, Most recently Peter V Brett’s Demon Cycle. Favourites are Riftwar saga and following Midkemia adventures, Magician is probably my all time favourite. Loved Eddings earlier stuff, favourite writer is David Gemmell. First fantasy book I ever read was Legend by Gemmell, I am forever re-reading his classics.
ОтветитьI remember when the 1st book came out😂
ОтветитьAnd the "Maybe I'll watch the show" NO!!! At least they were 100% in agreement with that!
ОтветитьOMG this is so spot on...
Ответить"Oh cool a WoT show is being made. They can streamline a lot of the wasted page time and put a renewed focus on the main characters instead of going on side quests with Nynaeve and Elayne and hoping Matt and Birgitte just lose their patience and murder them both (I'm fine)."
Season 1 scraps everything that actually matters demonstrating little to no understanding of the story beyond a skim reading
"Oh."
Actually, I really like the show. And, that way I don't have to read all those sexist things that you and other people have told me about. Others who have read the books and then watched the show prefer the show, except my old, sexist father-in-law. He said they changed too much in the series and he prefers the books....... But he is old and sexist, so there's that. 🙂
Ответитьah show sniping, aging like fine milk
ОтветитьI started to read Wot after the TV show. I love to read it and I cannot see the TV series anymore.
Ответить"You shouldn't read it unless you're really determined to suffer through it" oh dear I felt that one.
Made it a bit into book 10 my last attempt at reading the series 5 years ago and here I am trying again. Of course I'm starting over because maybe I forgot one of the definitely important side characters and scenes since I read it last and I just can't bear to miss anything.
Books 1-6 are fantastic, no qualification needed. Book 7 is still good, 8-10 are certainly slower than the rest but are not objectively that terrible if you have a decent attention span (also the end of book 9 is incredible), then the rest is great.
Ответить💯% accurate 😂
ОтветитьGreat!😅
ОтветитьIs there any fan edit of this book series which cuts out the problematic parts to reduce the slog and improve the pace, like how some movie series or anime series get fan edits. I started watching the TV show and it's mostly meh, but I can sense there might be a lot of good world building and story telling in the books, but I don't think I have what it takes to finish a book series this long. The longest series I have actually finished is Ian M Banks The Culture series and it's 10 books, would the wheel of time be a similar level of reading to that I wonder ?
ОтветитьI'm crying.
ОтветитьI do feel that the series should be tightened up from all the extrenious and ridicolous parts. Its would be an amazing 7 books series.
ОтветитьI now just send people this video if they even mention wheel of time
ОтветитьI liked the part where everyone’s jaw dropped
Ответитьalright, never gonna read it!
ОтветитьJust read king
ОтветитьThe most annoying thing was that when I got into the story of one of the characters the book switches perspectives like all the time -_-
ОтветитьDo you even realize you are talking to yourself X3?
ОтветитьI read this series over a period of 20 years and I literally cried when I finished it. Just recently, after watching the first couple of episodes of the live action abomination, I went back and read through all fourteen books. Was just as good as the first time, although it only took me a few months. It truly is a classic.
ОтветитьPeople who tell others to read WoT just want another person to complain to about how bad WoT is.
ОтветитьAs someone who read the first book and gave up, i relate to this video i guess. Plus I’ve heard so many people say this. I’m a Witcher fan though and we have our fair share of disclaimers like “some of the scenes translated poorly AND aged poorly” or “Yes some of the plot is a little forgettable, but it’s CHARACTER driven” etc.
ОтветитьI'm on the 8th book and I have to say that there are more pros than cons (but gawin is a jerk)
ОтветитьFinally. A quick summation of how I feel about the series. TY.
BTW: What would you think of a companion/edit series of books done in strickly 1st person POV?
It’s so good. And I don’t hate it at the same time. Reading then again now
ОтветитьI like the "sexist" jokes because they are more jokes about sexism, not actually sexist. Also, one of the major themes is that while men and women are inherently different they are also equal and complimentary, which is beautiful.
ОтветитьTBF a LOT happens in the slog. It is just frustrating to deal with all of the side stories when there is much more important plots
ОтветитьYep holy crap some of the parts of the books. Took me ages to finish some because I had to burn through a different book for a break... and they shouldn't have called the show wheel of time. Marvel universe wheel of time alternate timeline. A whole other turning of the wheel
ОтветитьDoing my man gawyn dirty saying he shouldnt have been written at all.
ОтветитьMe and the other WoT fans when talking about the Shadow Rising: It’s such a good book, one of the best!
Other people: That sounds pretty good
Me and the other WoT fans: The world building, magic, everything. The characters are so good too
All the characters besides Gawyn
That’s why this book is one of the worst
And also the best
I listened to the first one as an audiobook. I wanted to kill almost every female character and most of the men were boring. Even the guy who could talk to wolves.
ОтветитьI just started listening to book 5 and so far i hate every woman character, peoples mouths have dried up from shock over 100 times, and a good few paragraphs could juat be summarized with "And she had ROCkiN TiTS!"
Also Loials catch phrase was "But.... RrrrrrrrrrrAAAAAAAAnd" for forever.
A lot of the like "flirtatious teasing" that occasionally happens had bordered on porn script writing to me.
And if it weren't for the occasional neat monster or interesting dire circumstance the book would be unbearably dry.
I just finished my second listen through of the series. Honestly my favorite fantasy series. Thinking about listening to it again to be honest
ОтветитьTo be fair, I think the measure of a true fan is when you begin saying the sentence “I love this shitty garbage even though I hate it.”
ОтветитьThis was so funny! And so true. I remember slogging through the series and catching up the same month Jordan died. You hear that George?
ОтветитьI started reading the series while it was still unfinished before Robert Jordan passed. I gave up halfway through book 7. I just couldn’t do it anymore. I flew theough the first 4 and I had heard it was initially intended to be a 10 book series. I’m so glad I stopped when I did.
Ответить
