It all started with books. Amazon.com Inc., now a global retail giant selling everything from fresh food to diamond rings, began quietly as an online storefront for the newest titles.
Two decades later, Susan Novotny, who owns The Book House in Stuyvesant Plaza, is still battling the force that has erased her profits and threatened the store's existence. She credits her landlord, The Swyer Cos., for supporting the store in suburban Albany, New York, through seemingly incessant challenges.
The Albany Business Review sat down with Novotny for the latest installment of our series, The Interview. Check back for a new video next Wednesday – we'll be publishing one every week!
