Dustin is there a way to fix wet rot while it’s still wet? I taken out all the rotten wood I can reach but I’m sure there is still some places that are wet. Thanks for you help.

Bondo is made to chemically bond with metal. Not wood. Additionally I see no effort made to clean the substrate. This has to be a joke or free job? I hope some homeowner did not actually pay for this.

Dustin, what’s the wood behind a door pilasters? My door jamb is covered in aluminum like an aluminum frame. The longer frame extended to the edge of the jamb and also covered the wood hiding behind the pilasters. Problem is the wood behind the pilaster is breaking off at the top, just a small side because the storm door came loose. Should I just buy more aluminum covers and repair the little area?. Do I have an option for a new wood behind the pilasters that will also unable me to paint it, and leave my jamb exposed? Sorry for what is a stupid question and probably hard to understand. I just don’t know how to really explain properly. I just learned what a jamb is 2 weeks ago.

Underneath the pretty surface, it's still a rotten hollow wood. If someone bumps onto the bondo surface, what will happen? The Bondo cracks?

As many people have commented below, you either have to cut away the rotted wood completely or use the expensive wood hardener on the raw soft wood area if you can't cut any wood for whatever reason. Bondo will push out ,pop out after several months. Also if you can, drill holes in the wood where the Bondo is going to go .This allows the Bondo to "key" into the wood , or lock into the wood better.

Hi Dustin
I have some wet rot at the bottom of my garage door. I think my best option (instead of buying a new garage door)is to use wood hardener followed by Bondo. But, can you drive nails or screws into Bondo or another putty product?
Thanks, Dustin.

I went to school at UK and lived in the Cooperstown housing. One of my doors wouldn't close completely so the repair guy took a big hammer and pounded on the hinges until the door closed perfectly. The job took about 15 seconds. Maybe the repairman was Dustin.

Bondo is NOT suitable for making permanent repairs to rotten wood or filling major voids on wood. It is a polyester based material. Polyester resin has poor adhesive qualities. While great for shallow or superficial surface fairing (as in auto body work or fiberglass surface repair) it will soon fall out if used in the manner shown in this video. An epoxy based filler would be a much better choice. Start by stabilizing the rot (must be totally dry) by saturating it with an epoxy resin system formulated for maximum penetration (see "West System Epoxies" or "Total Boat" products via Jamestown Distributors). Then recreate the missing wood using an epoxy filler formulated for this purpose. After fairing and sanding, finish the repair with a good coat of paint. My first repairs on rotten wood using epoxy based materials are now 20 years old and still look good! As long as paint is properly maintained, my repairs should continue to last indefinitely. 🙂

I do wonder if while working on wood, wouldn't it be better to use the Bondo Wood Repair? I did remove rotten wood and used wood hardener for a more lasting repair. Thanks for the help with 'how to' and the use of the stick form and cutting to loosen it, just what I was wondering about.

OK; there is a mistake in application here. Bondo Filler can only be used in a dry & protected from moisture. What happens BONDO, will absorb any & all moisture. Using Bondo on cars for dents is one thing, but if there are holes behind it, pulls the water in like a sponge. There are epoxy's that would be better for this applications for wood and won't create issues with moisture. Yes been there done that.
