Demonetize this video - commercials are a crime in the midst of this music.
ОтветитьCan you be homesick for a place you've never been? This, to me, is what England sounds like.
ОтветитьI think this music is what one hears when first stepping into Narnia.
ОтветитьV William's music just touches the right nerve. Melodic, not too many notes, and full of soul and paints peaceful scenes inside the head. A composer for the people!
ОтветитьSublime
ОтветитьIt may just be coincidence . But the Fantasia came up on my screen after I had watched a performance of the Bruckner 9th.
The opening expansive chords of the Fantasia have a
remarkable similarity to the expansive melodious chords in the adagio of the Bruckner towards the end of the
movement . Before we hear the most dissonant music Bruckner composed . Or in fact anybody had composed until that time. Its possible of course that Bruckner also knew the theme of Thomas Tallis, And that is where the coincidence comes
from. Another similarity in the 9th is a theme very early on in the first movement. Which shows a great similarity to
Frank Sinatra's " My Way!"
FYI: The Mixolydian mode. Basically a major scale with a flat 7th. Used mostly in pre-Baroque music, and in modern jazz!
ОтветитьA truly transcendent work of art, and one of the most beautiful pieces ever created. It is the story of life: youth, love, pain, age. Sweet death. I weep every time I hear it. I hope for it to be played at my passing.
ОтветитьThis THE most powerful, beautiful piece of music for me. My heart soars when I hear it. To see and it and hear it played live in Gloucester Cathedral would be so utterly perfect. I'm sure, too, Mr Williams would have approved of this recording.
ОтветитьNote the two groups of musicians and the conversation they have. Beautiful.
This and the 5th are oaks, wheat in the wind, moors and meadows.
So beautiful.
ОтветитьSo utterly moving and beautiful. I think I may choose this for my funeral if I’m allowed to have one in this hateful world.
ОтветитьThis masterpiece full of comfortable feelings must quench the dryness of the soul of modern people
ОтветитьIs this version available on online music platforms?
ОтветитьBiblical.
ОтветитьI love this!!!♥️
ОтветитьThank you, thank you for posting this
ОтветитьSo Very Beautiful and Moving!!!
ОтветитьReminds me of Basil Poledouris's finest themes
ОтветитьAd breaks? Are you kidding me? I'd like Vaughan Williams to come back as a zombie and eat the person responsible
Ответитьa beautiful performance. Williams was definitely inspired by this great melody by Thomas Tallis.
ОтветитьWhat a glorious rendition. Thank you to all concerned and to the Dean and Chapter for agreeing to house the playing of this masterpiece. A taste of Heaven. RevDev
ОтветитьHeavenly
ОтветитьI fondly remember this being televised on the bbc. And as many have mentioned, I too believe that this version IS the finest recording produced.
Dose anyone happen to know if a cd is available of this recording?
Vaughan Williams was a great composer.
ОтветитьI agree the acoustics in the Cathedral give this music a magical heavenly aura. The best version by far
ОтветитьSo much has already been said about this piece - All I can do is thank my Father and my music teacher John Stowe for introducing me to the classics, Opera, Ballet and more - This isn't just beautiful music - It's a feeling, a time, a place, an emotion, a memory - For me who now lives in the USA, this sends me back to Britain, to a childhood filled with music and joy, this piece is the green fields of Britain and when I close my eyes, I am there again and when I open my eyes, they are filled with tears.
ОтветитьExcerpt from the BBC television series Masterworks: Six Pieces of Britain broadcast in 1999. Would have been really nice to see the full programme.
ОтветитьWonderful piece and a wonderful performance. This is the kind of performance that ca make you feel glad to be alive.
ОтветитьThis is totally divine in the true meaning of the word.....it never fails to lift me onto a much higher plane beyond existence.......
ОтветитьSuch beautiful music gives us a glimpse of heaven and very indirectly a view of God, certainly we feel his presence.
ОтветитьHabe dieses Werk von Thomas Tallin erst vor zwei Wochen auf einer Reise durch Schottland kennengelernt. Danke an BBC Radio dafür 😊. Mit der Familie nach einem wunderbaren Spaziergang im Glen Affric im Auto talabwärts entlang des Affric gehört. Ein Genuß, eine Freude🙏. Kam direkt nach Smetanas Moldau, wie passen oder?
Ответитьlovely music recorded very poorly
ОтветитьWonderful!
ОтветитьJust a magical piece of music
ОтветитьThis and The Lark Ascending always bring me to tears. I'd love to see it performed live, but I'd embarrass myself by bursting into tears. I recently saw Chopin's Symphony #2 live in a cathedral setting and it made me weepy, I guess I'm just a music empath.
ОтветитьMaster and comander

ОтветитьI can't imagine what it would be like to play this piece. And since I play bassoon, I probably never will. 😔 The same with Adagio for Strings. 😭
ОтветитьWhat a superb performance... beautiful and sublime.
ОтветитьI here after my band director recommended me this because of my taste in classical music. Thank you Sloan
ОтветитьWhen I was in my early 20s my brother made me listen to this beautiful music and it changed my listening for ever.
ОтветитьThank you for uploading the video ❤
ОтветитьAdverts in the middle? Seriously?
