What's The Best Frame Rate For Gaming? 60 vs 120 vs 240 FPS

I’m totally fine with 60fps max for story games, and 120-144fps for online multiplayer

For me, it’s 60fps max for handheld gaming, 120fps for console gaming on a TV, and 144fps on a gaming monitor

60fps is all you need. It feels silky smooth and anything above you can’t even tell. I run cyberpunk 2077 with max settings and ray/path tracing at around 60-100fps and it feels the same. At all times

I havent been gaming for the past several years but I just bought myself a new gaming laptop. My last gaming pc was a custom mid-high tier desktop with Amd hd 7870, Amd fx-4170, 8Gb ram, 500gb HDD, 256gb ssd which was built 11 years ago.

Now I have a laptop asus rog zephyrus m16 with Intel i9 13900H and RTX 4070, 16 gb ram (soon to be upgraded to 32gb), 3TB storage (1tb stock ssd + 2TB samsung 990 pro).

My laptop qualifies as high end tier laptop but definitely not the highest.

Back 10-11 years ago, i noticed that 45 fps provided a noticeable jump over 30 fps and my bare minimum for gaming was 45 fps especially during online more competitive play. 60 fps was what i always shot for though as it provided a noticeable difference to 45fps. Since my gaming monitor was only rated to 60 Hz, 60 fps was all I needed to shoot for and it was great when i was getting consistent 60fps. No complaints.

Now my laptop has 240Hz refresh rate. I have strong doubts that I will notice anything more than 120fps. I believe 120fps probably doesnt offer much of an upgrade over 70-80fps anyways. I'm sure those ultra competitive CS GO players notice the different between 120fps and 240fps though! Couldnt tell you how much though.

New to this..will a pc monitor for my laptop increase the framerate of the laptop games I play?

Just buy the highest hz you can afford then its somewhat futureproof

IF you play AAA single player games then stick to 60-75hz monitors. Even if you own high end GPU with recent releases i doubt you will get more than 75 fps without all those fake frames especially if you stick to high settings. 120+ hz monitors are better only in online competitive shooters where every frames counts to spot an enemy.

120fps looks plastic, good for hallucinagenic and hyper realistic cut sensation visuals. Not really for play tho

60 4k is comfortable and realistic without to much fuzz

I am fine with 60-100 fps/hz from I first started PC gaming in 1996 until now. I have a 13900K + 4090 + 3440x1440 ultrawide running at 100hz. If the framerate shows 200+ it doesn't mean I would prefer a 144/240hz monitor. It simply means that huge allowance of spare framerates would translate to the prolonged longevity of my PC gaming system. And true to expectations, I normally upgrade my gaming PC every 4.5-5 years although I will upgrade the GPU twice within that timeframe. I play mainly FPS but I'm not a professional eSport FPS competitive gamer so to me I can't see the difference between 100fps and 240fps. The tendency is for technology to evolve and get faster/better/bigger but there is a point of diminishing returns.. cough - 8K - cough - 540hz cough - 53" monitors. Just because you can doesn't mean its necessary for the best gaming performance.

60 is really good but if not go under 30 still can play .

I'm on a 165hz 1440p. Buttery smooth in the desktop and super sharp in games. I have no need for anything else.

In my opinion, a 1440p 165hz is the best because 1440p is for watching videos at a good resolution and 165hz is for enjoying the fps you get. (even if ur pc cant reach 165 fps it's still better to buy 165hz bc u will one day upgrade ur pc and u don't want to buy Another monitor, I mean u should get the best monitor for yourself so u wouldn't have to change it.

60 with the best possible graphics / rez for single player (🎮). 120 is enough for me for the multiplayer. PC with rtx 4070 and Series X

I have a 7900xt attached to a LG C1. I run anywhere from 80-120fps at 4k and will adjust settings if I drop below 80fps.

In saying that, I have no problem with these new consoles. I have a PS5 and still play COD on it at 120fps alongside my PC. Besides a slightly less sharp picture, I don't see it as a disadvantage and feel these consoles are really solid value.

I play everything at 1440P at 120FPS/120Hz.
For the reason that I want to play most of my games at a stable frametime, but by God PC games go very downhill with optimizations.
I have 3080+13600K and now mind you Warzone 2 can handle PS5 at 1440P at 120FPS and the graphics quality looks like PC at high details but I keep the game stable at 120 in all game scenes only at lowest details.
My opinion is that anything above 120Hz is fine.

The human eye cant really detect anything above 120 fps and 16K video quality. We are soon at the limits. In the future, we need to improve our brain capacity instead.

I have a question I have been researching and asking for SOOOOO long it's ridiculous....I play Massive Warfare Aftermath (Tank, hovercraft, helicopter blow other up game) on my PHONE (android). My current phone is a 60 max FPS. My problem that I cannot seem to get ANYONE to give me an acceptable answer that makes rational sense is sometimes my numbers depict that my vehicle should move faster than others with the same vehicle but with lower numbers depicting their vehicle SHOULD BE moving slower than mine...YET🙄. sometimes their vehicle CLEARLY moves faster, stops quicker, turns sharper(and quicker😳lol) than mine does. I have been researching purchasing a phone with 240 fps. Do you (or anyone who has an answer to my question/solution to my dilemma) think if I purchase a 240 fps phone it will make a difference? Also is there ANYTHING else I can do to make MY vehicle move faster in the (5 minutes) battles played (often against bots..but those 'battles' aren't what I'm referring to). I'm referring to playing against other real people all around the world.

For competitive games all I need is 97hz/fps and for more cinematic games I use 60hz/fps

I've basically been gaming on consoles all my life, so I'm very used to 30fps. I wouldn't say 30fps is unplayable, but seeing games run at 60fps is still a huge step up for me, personally.

also the next problem with 240 and 360 is low resolution. u want to have at least a 2560x1600 res so u can see better. thats the main thing for buying monitors
