What about H. Salt Fish & Chips?
ОтветитьI may have missed something. Was Arthur Treacher paid for the use of his name?
ОтветитьDude i never ate here
ОтветитьGreat Video!
ОтветитьI worked there in 1981. It was always garbage. You wistful folks have a lousy memory.
ОтветитьThe best fast food fish & chips today is at Culver's.
ОтветитьThere still is one on Sate Rd. in Cuyahoga Falls. As of 10.26.22 it's the last one although they are talking about reopening the one in Garfield Hts. Ohio. We eat there all the time and see cars from many states there. I talked to a couple from Minnesota who's main reason for the visiting the area was to eat at Arthur Treacher's! Come and check it out!
Ответитьthey were the best
ОтветитьI live in Akron I still eat there every week
Ответитьi was a fry cook at Arthur Treacher's on Hampton Avenue in St. Louis in 1975.
The only other specifically fish 'n' chip chain were restaurants named H. Salt Fish 'N' Chips.
We were instructed to define the fish as "North-Atlantic White Fish." We cooked everything
in high quality peanut oil to avoid taste transfer of other foods being cooked in the same vat.
I LOVED the food there, and never got tired of it.
I remember the uniform shirt being as colorful as the Arthur Treacher sign outside, which made
them great at hiding the inevitable oil stains.
That high school job ended about a year later, and it was some time afterwards that I heard that
location had shuttered. Soon, Arthur "Treacherous" -- as I lovingly called it -- no longer existed in St. Louis.
I was a kid in Columbus Ohio in the late 60s where a new Arthur Treacher's opened. just a bike ride from home. I fondly remember that there was a young lady (maybe 20?) wearing a mermaid tail who sat in the back of a convertible on opening day to draw attention. I must have spent hours talking with her, I was so smitten. Wow, how the world has changed.
ОтветитьUsed to be ast manager when young
ОтветитьH, Salt fish and chips.Skipper in Portland.Capt.D's.
ОтветитьWhat happened to Union Jack fish n chips?
ОтветитьWe had one for a short time in Waukegan IL, it closed around 1982
ОтветитьSo much better fish than anything available today ,Cod dinner portioned that big today would cost $30
ОтветитьI LOVED the hush puppies! They tasted so good! I wish Arthur Treachers was still around. I looked it up and it says that there is only one of them still around! How sad. I remember the fish tasted so good! That was back in the early 1970's! When it was Cod!
ОтветитьWhatever Happened to Village Inn Pizza Parlor (I didn't stutter)?
ОтветитьI used to eat at Arthur treachers.
They had great fish way better than longjohn silver's!!!!
I miss AT fish & chips. The steak fries were the best. The fish was great to if they didn't overcook the batter. Lots of tarter sauce. The last one closed in my town about 6 yrs ago. The nearest one is 800 miles away. To far to go for lunch. I think it's the only one left.
ОтветитьLoved Treacher's up until the local one closed. A Korean family bought it and sold fish and fries but it wasn't the same.
ОтветитьSo Arthur died of heart disease, maybe to much fried food!
ОтветитьI was born and raised in Columbus, Ohio, I loved Arthur Treacher's, unfortunately there are none in Columbus anymore.
ОтветитьLandover mall- Route 1 NE- Queenstown
3- missed stores
I miss Skippers and CptD's
ОтветитьBest fish and chips in the U.S. when they were here.
ОтветитьI liked AT's products and ate there often.
ОтветитьArthur Treacher's had combination locations with Miami Subs and Kenny Rogers Roasters before 2006! WhenvI briefly lived in Sarasota FL in 2001 there was a Miami Subs/Kenny Rogers Roasters/Arthur Treacher's location there! There also was one in Montgomery, AL now a car dealership!
ОтветитьLoved their food. When they opened in my town the lines were around the store!
As of 2021 Google shows only one store left, on Long Island, NY..
The one near Cleveland closed last year, a victim of the Covid pandemic. The building is a pizza place now
ОтветитьHey, how about a story or two on Cafeterias that were operated in stores like SEARS or WT GRANTS? Back in the 1970's (and before mall food courts) this was a big thing when our parents took us shopping. Each store seemed to have their own. Boy, I miss those too. Not great food, but it sure was better than a McDonald's that took over every corner in the era.
ОтветитьAnother trip down MEMORY LANE. I did like their fish (Batter fried). They, along with LJ SILVERS, got a lot of my money in the 1980's or 90's until they closed or started to go away.
ОтветитьI was fortunate enough to be employed by Arthur Teachers in Flushing, NY in 1981....the restuarant was always busy and a great place to work...I started out as a cleanup crew and ended up being a fry cook...the food was great (we were allowed a food budget to consume) we even traded food with McDonald's and the pizza joint next door to us. Everyone at McDonald's, Gloria's pizza and AT got tired of eating the same food every day so we traded food with them...everyone though it was a win-win situation ..and it was. A great memory of my youth and the food we good at Arthur Teachers 👍...glad I worked there.
ОтветитьI used to drive several miles out of my way to get "Arties" fish and chips - it was most delicious (how does something so good ... fail?)
ОтветитьI use to love Arthur Treacher's as a kid. One of my favorite memories was from the mid to late 1970s going to an Arthur Treacher's location that was in Milford, OH on a Sat with my parents to get fish and chips. I'd love when they'd give us extra 'crunches' (that's what I'd call those little bits of lose fried batter from when they'd fry the fish)
ОтветитьPiss poor attempt at a British accent. Great videos but your ignorance exudes from every pore.
ОтветитьI lived near the Kearny NJ Arthur Treatures in the late 70s
ОтветитьI had Fish & Chips in Legal Seafood a popular franchise. It cost $18 and the fish the fish was so bland it was tasteless.
ОтветитьI really loved Arthur Treachers. F & C whenever you wanted them and their places had such a beautiful atmosphere.
ОтветитьGreat research and memories.
Thanks
I was a kid in grade school in the 80s the last time I seen an Arthur Treacher's here in Toledo, Ohio. Long john silvers is still hanging around here with only about 3 restaurants left. 😕😕😕😕
ОтветитьI went to the last of the remaining Arthur Treachers near Cleveland Ohio. It brought back some great memoiries for me. Shame is not long after I moved away from there, Oh how I miss A.T.'s
ОтветитьI lived in Baltimore in the 70's, 80's and 90's. They took our Arthur Treacher's away. They took our Gino's away. They took our Roy Rogers away. They took our Morty's Chick 'N Ribs away. They took our Hardees away (today's Hardees is NOTHING like the Hardees of old). They took our Jacks of Lombard Street away. Basically they took all of our great chains away.
ОтветитьIf wikipedia is to be believed only one Arthur Treacher’s Fish and Chips remains in 2021.
ОтветитьNOT ABSOLUTELY SURE, THERE WERE VERY LOW COST STEAKS RESTAURANTS, CALLED RAD'S STEAKS RESTAURANTS ,ONE WAS IN MANHATTAN NEW YORK CITY, ON 14 STREETS, AND 4 TH, AVENUE , ACROSS THE STREET FROM KLEINS STORE. THIS IS THE 60"S, AND EARLY 70. NOT SURE WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM. STEAKS WERE UNDER $ 2 DOLLARS. BAKE POTATO. GRILLED, WHERE PASSING PEOPLE SAW THE COOK AND THE FLAMES OF GRILL. AS A YOUNG CHILD I ENJOY WATCHING THAT. . I USED TO SHINE SHOES AND ONCE IN A WHILE EAT INSIDE. BAD OLD DAYS.
ОтветитьHot dog is also called Frankfurter named after a German city and hamburger is also although er is not in the cities names.
Ответитьwow! thanks for letting us know that the place is yet around - that's GREAT!
Ответитьglad it died, fast food is the bane of good health...total garbage no matter how deep you fry it
ОтветитьPity you decided to attempt an English accent at the end of your video. Cringe worthy to say the least.
ОтветитьBack in the day people didn't snack. There were three meals and nothing in between. Meals were just fuel stops for actual life.
Ответить
