Love all the people that came here to gaslight everyone. Nope, the Alabama legislators who made this the flag around the height of Jim Crow were quite proud that they'd used the X from the Confederate Battle Flag, and happily said so on the record multiple times. Probably in the hopes of getting votes. Don't get to change the written record 120 year later because its no longer popular.

The Alabama flag is a saltire known as Saint Patrick's Cross. It is also the flag of Northern Ireland. Most people in Alabama of European descent are Scotch-Irish, hence the flag. Not confederate. Not Spanish.

The governor of Alabama flag has the castille and Leon seal. Alabama was part of Spain before joining the US. First European in Alabama was Spanish conquistador Hernando de Soto. That is the old Spanish flag, period.

Let's give those dead white guys some credit.
They hired smarter people than them to do important things like choose the symbol of a rebellious nation.
Trends didn't die overnight back then.
People willing to be blind to Religious Beliefs were put to death, everywhere else in this world, at this time.
You enjoy the right to snicker at them while naming groups of people because of them.
It was messy then and it still is.

I suggest celebrating progress and encouraging respectful behavior.

That way we can all enjoy more progress.
Edited to Correct Autocorrect.

The original flag for Alabama was the confederate flag. Should of left it at that, but too many liberals and leftists cried about it.

I've always thought (and still do) that it's not St.Andrews cross although that is a good claim to use. I think it's a combination of the following.
A white flag with red X is like the opposite of surrender also it is the V in the naval flag alphabet & the design is the same (- 🌟's) as the battle flag.
So never again surrender & V is for victory. Alabama is my home born, raised & will soon die here,

Well no. The x is a St. Andrew’s Cross and it is a Christian symbol. The southern state’s culturally was dominated by Scottish immigrants with strong ties to Scotland. The confederate battle flag is based on the Scottish flag and then the Alabama flag has ties to Scotland and the confederates who died and did their duty to the state that ordered them into battle.

I always figured that the flag was created as a combination of the English & Scottish design.
The narrator doesn't sound Southern at all. And could be an undercover PC culturist.
Just my personal opinion.

You should have contacted Sheldon Cooper before you made this video.
As mention before, the origins of Alabama’s flag is on the Burgundy cross that was used by the Spanish Empire. As a side note 60% of what is now USA was ruled by Spain: the Carolinas, Alabama, Florida, Luisiana (at some point), Tejas, Nuevo Méjico, Colorado, California, even Alaska, etc. These territories were know as New Spain, later were under Mexico when they declare the independence from Spain.

No, the "X" is based off of the Spanish Empire's Cross of Burgundy flag (which was a red stylized Cross of St. Andrew on a white background). Alabama was part of Spanish West Florida, and the flag is based on that flag. It's a pure coincedence that both the Spanish Empire and the Confederacy used the Cross of St. Andrew.
