Wilhelm Gustloff was a military. It was original an hospital ship but it was converted into military transport that was armed with anti aircraft guns. It wasn’t marked as civilian ship.
ОтветитьIf you look at the major ship-disasters of WW2, there were TONS of them where thousands of civilians died on ships being torpedoed by the Russians and Germans; so it's honestly easy to see why this one was forgotten when there were like. 7x instances of 5,000-7,000 civilians dying in a similar fashion throughout the war.
ОтветитьI only learned of this incident a couple weeks ago. Interestingly, the actor who played Victor Newman for decades on the soap opera the Young and the Restless, as well as playing John Jacob Astor in Titanic, was a survivor of this tragedy. I think I read that he was three years old when this happened.
ОтветитьThe Wilhelm Gustloff stopped being used as a Cruise Ship when World War II broke out, not when the war turned against Germany.
ОтветитьEric Braedon: the actor who played John Jacob Asther in James Cameron's 1997 film, Titanic was actually a survivor of this sinking. He was three years old.
ОтветитьThats the secound deadlierst ship Desaster.
The deadlierst was the sinking of the SMS Linz.
An Imperial Austrian Troop Carrier in the Grat War with more than 10.000 lost Soldiers in the Adiatic Sea.
what was the music used in the background?
ОтветитьIm pretty sure no one talks about it is cuz of 2 main reasons.
1: it was a german ship in WW2.
2: no popular movie was made about the ship by a popular movie director.
I recently saw a video about this tragedy. And I was stunned that, not only had I never heard of it, I couldn't find anyone who had. Something this huge, this incredible, and it's as if it was a of no significance.
That needs to change. RIP to the many souls lost...you are not forgotten. 🌹
The boat was in fact a military vessel. It just so happened to hold mainly civilians at that time. It gave the Russians a legitimate reason to hit it unfortunately…
ОтветитьSome estimates of the loss of life has been put at 10,000 to 12,000 mostly women and children and high ranking officers
ОтветитьWilhem Gustlov.. The Ship That Had 9,000 Deaths
ОтветитьAs a WWII buff I knew this story. Unfortunately the repetitive background drone got to me.
ОтветитьAnyone know the background music
ОтветитьShe actually had anti aircraft guns 💀
ОтветитьNot making light of the innocent lives lost, but it is a cruel irony for Germany that a ship named after a man who was assassinated was, well... you know.
Ответитьas a russia, after they invaded leningrad, this was our attack, i feel bad for all the poor people, As always, big respect from Russia
ОтветитьAll those deaths.. but since they were nazis and germans? Oh then there will be no sympathy, because it does matter who you are and what you belive in, belive in the wrong thing and you won't get any sympathy, yay! Those same people are the ones saying that it shouldn't matter who you are or what you belive in that you can still get sympathy, except for when it's an opposing opinion of course.. 🤣. Plus if they really are humane they should still care since it's still human lives that are lost.
ОтветитьI thought the lusitania was the worst ship sinking tragedy,it sank in 15 minutes with 2000 people onboard
ОтветитьThe guy who shot the torpedoes was terrible, he shouldn't have shot unless he was certain it was a millitary ship.
ОтветитьА про теплоход " Армения " потопленный фашистами в Чёрном море не хотите рассказать? До 10 000 погибших.
ОтветитьIt wasn’t the motherland it was the Vaterland
ОтветитьThe seas has really eaten a lot of human meat.
Ответить“Fun” fact: Eric Braeden was a survivor of the Gustloff when he was a little boy. He would later play John Jacob Astor in James Cameron’s Titanic. If you can’t place the name after all these years, his death scene is when the glass ceiling breaks and he’s standing on the grand staircase frozen in shock.
So, in some ways, he probably wasn’t acting in that scene. He could likely recall exactly how he felt and channeled his story into another man’s. Must have been surreal for him.
Soviet war crime???? Gereral Patton had it right. The U.S. should had invaded Russia in 1945 our men and equipment were there already, and the Germans killed 20 million of them. They were softened up ripe for the picking.
ОтветитьNo sympathy whatsover. Nine thousand (9,000) was about the toll of two days at the Treblinka extermination camp. The Germans killed six million of my people; and millions upon millions of others. If 9,000 of them died on the Wilhelm Gustloff....no tears shed.
ОтветитьWhy do you have extreme fear of the ocean and ships?
Me:
Nothing personal, but ignoring the Holocaust, the German military was known for going after civilians, and this isn't like a WWII, precision weapons aren't really precise, we need a thousand bombs to hit one building, can't help but to hit to trees for the forest way, but they would actually target places they knew held civilians including shelters. They purposely tried to maximize civilian casualties. The ship wasn't purposely targeted, but in reality...it is a bit of karma unfortunately.
ОтветитьCrazy how a ship at that time could carry 10000
Ответитьheard it before he told me lol
ОтветитьIf it was a ship with 9000 nazis... Well nothing of value was lost.
ОтветитьI never thought id feel bad for Nazis, but here we are
Ответитьwow this is sad i cant believe ive never heard of this ship before....
Ответитьso, if it wasn't overloaded a lot fewer people would have died
ОтветитьLOL. OH WELL.
ОтветитьAnd the saddest part is the U-boat Where hurding them with they Propeler where cutting them in halfs
Ответитьtitanic is overrated
ОтветитьTypical Russian negligence
ОтветитьSo tragic. Can’t believe we haven’t heard of this one. This is far worse than titanic just due to sheer amount of people… civilians.
ОтветитьThis is sad I hate the nazis but those were civilians.. so rip to them sorry this happened
Ответить"he didn't know it had 9000 people on board when he shot at it".... That's not an oopsie that's on purpose lol
Ответитьdoña paz has joined the chat
Ответить“They stand for Germany they die for Germany” Viktor Reznov
Ответить“Creepy reason” is laughable… perhaps since it was carrying thousands of nazis it may not receive the same attention as others. Pathetic
ОтветитьYou know why no one really cares about this ship? Because if the Germans hadn’t started another world war this wouldn’t have happened and most of Europe, including where the attackers were from were in ruins and on fire. Too bad so sad
Ответить1.9Kth Commented 💙
ОтветитьThey supported nazis no need to feel sad on this one
Ответитьthe MV Dhara, a Scottish shipm spontaneously combusted, only 594 of 1,800 survived, meaning this was even deadlier than any ithers wreck.
Ответитьthere is one deadlier tragedy.
