Garmin Forerunner 965 vs Epix: 65+ Differences Explained

I like both watches now deciding which one to get I can the epix in the uk for 375 and get the 965 of eBay for 460 just can’t make mind up lol

Noticed that the epix had an old software, now the screen and details are much better.

Do you think we will see a Forerunner 965s? I'd prefer the Forerunner but the 47mm size is a downside for those of us who prefer a smaller watch

You can find the EPIX saphire edition watch cheaper than the 965. No sapphire screen on a watch of this price is an aberration. I noticed it with my 945... The debate is closed.

It looks like you can pick up an epix gen 2 sapphire cheaper than a 965 now with Black Friday offers. Currently coming from an original Venu. What would everyone recommend?

Can you use 22mm quick release bands with the 965.

So, currently the 965 and Epix 2 (non-pro) appear to be pretty much the same price (600ish).. Torn which way to go, there's plenty of 965 vs E2pro commentary, but that's a significant price hike..

You can now double tap the light button on 965 to turn on the flashlight too

From 2016 i hawe Vivoactive 3 and for MTB and Gym is super good and i pay it realy not much like 300€ and its runing super good . Also i work wit him and to mee best things are when someone colls me i can sand mail and yust sas i will coll you later . And for all sports is super good ,im not pro but im in gym 3x weakly and i use garmin strap for HR and its super good . So i realy think that all of that from sleap tracking hawe Vivoactive and Vox also its good cos when im not in good shapee its aleays on spot only nawigstion Vivo dont hawe and to giw 1200€ i yust dont see price and what is hee giwing too mee. And i like notmal mechanical warches. And for 3,000€ i can buy good wotch wich i hawe when i dont work . But Garmin is super good company and their guarantee is super good. But i think i will haee Vivo feu ares and when hee dies i will both somthing olse .

As you mentioned water proofing of each watch, I would also like to say not to take this as correct. Last year I got the fenix 7 and although it says 100mtrs on the watch, it is nothing like this. Unfortunately for me not reading up on this I took my watch on a 18mtr dive, I didn’t touch the watch at all And it didn’t get knocked or anything but died on the 30 min dive. I wish they wouldn’t put this info on the back of the watches. 😢

The sapphire screen. Wins me. Made the mistake getting the fenix 6s…wasn’t sapphire. And here I am getting a new Garmin epix one year later because I can’t stand this scratch on the screen of my rose gold and white fenix 6s🥲

love your contrant DC Rainmaker. I wanted to ask if there are is similar feature in the apple watch like the training load that garmin provides. Garmin is able to tell you if you are detraining or peaking etc. Is there something similar like that in apple watch or a third party app on the AW.

Can you change the UI font size on the 465? Not a fan of the larger text on the glances that gets cut off way more often than on the epix

Can you connect the AllTrails on the 965

Having recently got into long distance running events and coming from a having an Apple Watch and now looking for a watch with greater battery life, I must say Garmin does an awful job creating a product line up. The purchasing experience should be seamless such that a person could just buy on impulse knowing they are getting the right product, not having to feel like they need to do research to make sure they are get the right one.

If Garmin puts a saphire screen on Forerunner 965, they wont sell any other Epix or Fenix watch.

😭😭😭 not having the boating/anchor/expedition mode matters on the forerunner. As a woman I would
like the slimmer design way better, but as an avid sailor I can’t commit to a watch without a sailing function 🙁

In this video you said the 965 would be the one you prefer. How would that stack now with the pro version but the 42mm. The smaller pro would not be as bulky and retain all the new features added to the pro that are not on the 965. Or would you still prefer the 965. Maybe another video. The hill-endurance score most likely I’m guessing stay on these pros.

I dislike the look of the 965's interface/ menus/fonts compared to the epix. Anyone know if there's a way to load the epix UI onto it?

Folks with Epix2 or Fenix7 experience; can you increase the font on UI? Did not see that upon basic Googling so figured I ought to ask. Guessing it may be why the Data Fields on the 965 might be limited to 6 total vs 8 on the Epix perhaps? Thanks if anyone can confirm.

Weather widget is different between these two too. No idea why. FR series has the air quality and shows the weather station name.

Also leaning towords 965 but worried about durability for watersports. Find for swiming and SUP but not Surfing/sailing and windsurfing. Surley diving into water will be similar impact to falling off a boat/surfboard? is it worth the risk vs the added wieght and cost of an epix?

I like the display resolution of 965 so much but the sapphire is sapphire so only the Epix 2 is the way for me.

The Epix looks better! Just bought one and the feel of the watch is high quality. The weight don’t bother me as a runner and there’s even times I forget it’s on my wrist. 6 days battery with AOD. I don’t mind charging once a week but to each it’s own.

one question, can you have fenix 7 watch face on 965 ?

I've had the fr 965 for three days, and had the epix 2 for over a year.
The bigger screen is a winner, and why I'll keep the fr 965 over the epix..But also found more differences (maybe some bugs?)

Audio, is very average on the 965. Base is distorted and the voice call outs are also distorted. (using same headset- Shokz Open Run Pro)
Going to the light mode, it always goes to one below full brightness, on the epix, it would go to last setting.
Scrolling is a lot smoother on the 965 compared to the epix..
Did a 27km trail run at night, and although had it set to always on display, the screen would turn off (on the 965), having to tap the screen or move my wrist to make it come back on.
Morning report would ask you to view it, instead of going straight to it.

In the opening shots, you can already see scratches on the case of the 965. So ruggedness is undoubtedly a differentiator between the two devices! I have always used Fenix devices because I wear my watch 24/7 and they need to be able to take a beating.

Was thinking of upgrading from an Epix for the bigger display in a smaller body but the 6 data fields limit is an outright deal breaker. FR965 has the same 1.4” display size as the Fenix 7x (which can also do 8) AND has a much higher pixel density, yet it is limited to 6 fields?? 🤦‍♂️
