I agree with you and it would be interesting and entertaining. But I DO NOT trust Disney to make it. The moment you begin to break lore/ cannon rules: shit hits the fan.

What if Lucas never sold to Disney.

What if Disney went bankrupt in 2010 and was never heard from again.

What if we did deserve and we did get the nice thing we don't get.

I think they should declare the Sequel trilogy as "set in an alternate universe and is non-canon" now and recreate the sequel trilogies with maybe new characters and a proper story with Lucas.
That's what can save Star Wars movies now.

Bro star wars has millenniums of years of timeline, you'll have even more creativity if it was set way before kotor or way after the sequels. i don't see a reason or even a demand of stars war what if. Theres already a lot of star wars content. There would be new demand if a good new and original storyline was created.

Its just that I, among many others in the fambase, have absolutely no faith in modern Lucasfilm to execute it properly.

I think I do prefer Visions to a What If series. However, as long as it is purely a "change the details and see what happens" thing, and not the Disney interconnected universe deal, there is a shot at this being good. They just need to be bold with it and not play it safe (which to me is why the Marvel what if series doesn't work so well)

I agree we shouldn’t shackle ourselves to the Disney canon, but I also think that new classic EU stories also deserve to get made despite it existing in the classic EU universe, which is a separate universe.

I also don’t want non Disney-canon Star Wars stories to be shackled to What If scenarios as well.

I love what ifs because I have done them with so many books/movies over the year I probably spend more time what ifing myself into the story then it takes to watch or read said thing. I have “what ifed” / added a whole race to star wars from something I personally have been writing. I always like the alternatives and the creativity that can coke from them.

I think fans do appreciate creativity and spinning off when it comes movies that become universes themselves. Star Wars isn't just about two trilogies, it incorporates countless video games, books, cartoons/animations, and even sandbox style MMOs that allows fans like me to be immersed in that universe while directing my own fate. I also thing fans do quite well when it comes to handling the "suspension of disbelief" that allows talented writers to really stretch new ideas without losing the viewers. But what we don't like is this... woke culture being shoved up our asses by some chick who wound up being in charge of Lucas Films after the merger. Nor do we appreciate getting blasted when DEI based show is shoveled in our faces and we wind up not liking it thus it winds up not making the money Disney thought it would. At the end of the first season of Mandalorian, we see male and female heroes fighting side by side, covering each other utilizing unique talents and combat skills all to give the Empire the spanking it needs. Kara Dune's character was a strong, forceful but compassionate ranger who clearly could handle herself. Her character was developed and introduced to us fans very well and we celebrated. Rey Skywalker (Ridley) after a trilogy of horrible writing by directors who had no business in the SW universe (or Star Trek for that matter) showed us what bad writing, bad directing, bad special effects, bad concepts and then bad acting can do to even something as iconic as Star Wars. Don't get mad at the fans because we point out to you that there's dog shit on your shoes. Clean it up, look around, learn from it and move on.

So I paused half way through. I've seen star wars for my head cannon as a retelling of human history in a sci-fi remelom which is wonderful. As we all know the nature our speices on our plan of reality we do what some do best take good ideas push there ideas ok which is fine. People have taken something good and see a cash cow etc. Sir you might understand every not prevy do your home work. These our struggles from top to bottom. There always one thing that ruin a good plan is the sith and incompatibility. Which I believe was the prequels story. Going back after my example. This community should reflect the dune series and what they did. That were g. Lucas got his impression. To bad I can't use a capital G but he played him self as the creator of this wonderful nartive for our speices self reflection. With his action. But truck yeah stars is like shriek some get some don't. Siginging off. Hit me up if you wanna chat I want criticism.

I agree that there is nothing wrong with non-canon what if material! Just look at Dragon Ball which has a lot of non-canon movies that aren't bogged down by the canon story! Then you've got Dragon Ball Heroes/Super Dragon Ball Heroes & Xenoverse which borrow elements from DB Online as well as other DB video games! Just because it isn't canon doesn't mean you can't enjoy it especially if its good!

Personally I think I would be cool to see a what if Vader successfully supplanted Emperor Palpatine! What if Anakin had never fallen to the Dark Side or what if he decided to make the vision of himself returning to the light side earlier a reality & made amends with Obi-Wan! What if Padme survived Revenge of the Sith! What if Jar Jar actually was a Sith Lord or secretly Plagueis himself! What if Ashoka had been actively involved in the original Star Wars trilogy! Or what if the sequels had been better?

Personally I would be exited to see stories outside of cannon, and the truth of the matter is that creating something new and separate from the original does not make the original worse but can potentially elevate it. Stories get rebooted and changed all the time, think about all the different authors and visions of properties like Sherlock Holmes, Batman, James Bond, etc. the original films will always be special but we are blessed by the fact that fans and creators want to make there own versions of the Star Wars Galaxy, its stories and its characters. this is how you bring new people in and get them interested, by creating new onboarding points to engage more people who might otherwise be intimidated the vast amounts of content previously created.

I really wish Star Wars did what Gundam did where they all reboots into alternate universes with new characters and worlds and rules, just with the themes of the original (eg. how Witch from Mercury has the transhumanism, mecha, tragic character drama, class politics, horrors of war theming of 1979 Gundam, but has its own world and genre).

I don't think this is a disagreement about moving beyond the current canon. The issue the public has is that Disney wrecks Star Wars everything they do something. "What If" is a great idea, and because it is, the public is upset because Disney will ruin yet another potentially worthy storyline.

I like the idea of "What If" stuff more than other non-cannon works.
I am just as interested in world building as I am the story, so when something pretends to be in the same universe but contradicts another story, it creates issues. Too many things like that, and the world no longer feels cohesive.
So If they explicitly say that a story is in an alternate time line, that allows for a lot more leeway, in my opinion.

"What if" can be fun to think of, but I prefer them as thinking about how history unfolds and how different people affect it. It may or may not play well into a narrative other than a documentary.

Fans either getting annoyed or not getting annoyed is perfectly justifiable. If someone is emotionally invested, then to feel that the investment and love isn't valued, then it comes as a blow.

One thing I think many Wha If skeptics are maybe missing is the series might unshackle Disney itself from where it’s at, allow some new creatives and new seeds of stories to take root. Whether or not we cherish the canon or find it restrictive, it seems clear that Disney is in a rut with the material. IMHO, a really good What If series might help get some things back on track. I don’t see it hurting.

I don't mind a Star Wars "What if", and I'm not sure why everyone is against it. Sure, I understand that people might think this is Lucasfilm trying "MARVELize" Star Wars, and how a multiverse would needlessly complicate eveything, but hear me out? Star Wars isn't like MARVEL, it doesn't have infinate versions of the same characters constantly crossover with eachother. There is no Sith Lord Jar-Jar vs. Mandalorian Obi-Wan Kenobi, or Han Solo traveling to another universe to meet Indiana Jones (Though that one did sort of happened). Besides, I've always seen Star Wars doing something with alternate timelines rather than full-on alternate universes. Yes, I see alternate timelines and alternate universes as seperate things. Luke going to Alderaan and Leia going to Tatooine would be an alternate timeline. Luke and Leia having their genders switched would be an alternate universe.
The Lego Star Wars Holiday Special and Terrifying Tales have both kind of toyed with this.

Do I think it needs to be a show? No. I say keep the "What ifs" a comic thing. I feel like that would be cheaper for Lucasfilm (so that they could have enough money/resources to focus on other projects) and I think it wouldn't come across as something "MANDATORY" for fans to get into like a Disney+ show would. Like I said before, it should just be non-canon fun.
