It's 2023 who is actually filling their tank that much It actually reaches the nozzle (petrol is too expensive)

Now someone explain to me why, when we try and gas up our 1966 ford, this doesn't work? xD

What happens if you rubber seal (air tight) the entry hole of the tank und pierce through with the nose?
(No additional air can get into the tank)

If a gas nozzle was invented today it would have a computer chip and a sensor. Proper engineering seems to be a lost art.

Ya descárgate un programa que utilice modeladores 3d, así se verá en 3d las diferentes capas y mecanismos.

google probably would have just said a combination of springs, valves, and the venturi effect as a trigger when the pressure raises when the petrol level meets the nozzle tip....

What can cause some of these to just shut off randomly? I seem to get it most when filling up a motorbike.

How does this mechanism apply if we just want to fill a half tank?

As cool as electronic systems can be, I do love it when things are engineered to operate automatically without a whiff of a computer chip to be found!

Does that mean the fuel grade is mixed when 2 people used different grades after another? At least for that tiny amount.

we dont deserve these mechanisms. These things are way too smart for average users who dont appreciate even 5% of what they are consuming.

Now explain why it didn't shut off and I had Diesel running down the side of the car and out of the overflow under the wheel arch. And also why on my other older car the petrol pump cuts out as soon as you try to fill the car up and only by pulling the pump partially out and going for a 3/4 squeeze can you get fuel into the car? And the also expain why when you stop filling at £50 its suddenly £50.01 when you go to pay.

Happened to me, but in my country you can't handle the pump, gas station workers do that. So ethanol overflowed hard and stained the paint work on all of the C column on my car. Gas station didn't wanna pay, I went to court, someone said I would basically end up dead at some point. 😂
Big gas station mafia over here. 😂

Then people at the pump bypass this whole mechanism by continuing to pump past the shut off multiple times.

But you assumed that this works only if the petrol reaches to the hole in the nozzle.
I have observed that the supply shuts automatically even if my tank isn't full, but the supply shuts off after it has dispensed the amount of petrol i had entered in the dial.

funny, decades ago I bought one on eBay to take apart and figure out how it worked. I came to the same exact conclusions you did without having to cut it in half.

No such thing as "suction force". Negative pressure causes positive pressure to exert a force. "Nature abhors a vacuum". Things aren't "sucked" in they're pushed in by ambient air pressure.
