It was cheaper for China to buy reliable Western chips, benefiting both sides. China spends more on chip imports than on oil. The sanctions prompted China to invest in its own supply chain. Local manufacturers are now more willing to use the perceived less reliable local chips. When self-sufficient, China can provide the world with cheaper chips, while the West and its allies lose access to both the Chinese and global markets.

The US is developing its own supply chain, but without access to a large market, it cannot be competitive.

The US is leaving no knees untouched in its Tonya Harding competition strategy.

The Chinese government had very little success in being self-sufficient in technology; they are very grateful to the US for pushing them towards self-sufficiency. Thanks to the US, China now has its own GPS system and space program.

This is so typical and Racist of western people like this idiot host to claim that Chinese are homogeneous and have no intelligence to create advance technology. What do you call 6G, High Speed Rail, Super Computer, AI, mega dams and bridges? China have literally thousands registered patents in technology surpassing America and Europe. Please revise your Racist mentality and show respect where its due.

"communist China doesn't innovate things, only democrat America can.

why?

because when Chinese wake up in the morning, they ask themselves, why should i innovate something? there is no incentive for it."

Seriously?

The Biden Administration did a great job recognizing this with the “Chips Act.” Meanwhile Republicans did their best to offshore advanced chip manufacturing.

Think about what China used to not have it some 10 years ago but they have it now. If US or its allies are not willing to sell Semi conductor cheaps with China , it makes no significant damage as China has already the ideas to be make them. The Gap has already been closed. This only makes China stronger.

The main issue is that China's development is too rapid, making the United States fearful of losing its position as a world leader. All other issues are minor in comparison.😂,but I think china can catch up very soon in semiconductors.

The USA are playing dirty here. One thing is true, china will not back down, resilience will prevail.
America doesn't really have a semiconductor advantage over China, they have allies which they bully into following their agenda.

are you serious, you want the Chinese government to remove president Xi from power because USA decided to ban China from procuring top-tier semiconductor chips 😂

China's answer to the American Semiconductor Chip War came in the form of a smartphone called "Huawei Mate 60 Pro" in August 29, 2023.. give China 10 more years and you will see who leads in this sensitive technology 🤟

When those whom said the Chinese won’t be able to build their own cell phones, cars, nuclear weapon, satellites, GPS system, bridges, HSR, 5th generation fighter jets, aircraft carriers, space station and many others…… what happened? Now they say they can’t build their own chips ….. wow 😂

Haha..in denial and delusion comment. Semiconductor is make chip. Huawei 7nm is born and mass produced. So all the rude and rubbish talk does not make sense. Military chip need hardening to tolerate high temperatures and pressure, hence very fine chip don’t work

china's educational system is too homogenized and controlled to encourage imagination and risk taking. that only refer to those state monopoly. the private sectors are willing to take risks as we can see massive investment pump into startups are grow over the past 10 years. Huawei 5G technology has nowhere to copy but has to innovate. car industry, again state monopolies are excluded, are very much a battle field of innovation.

Just hope it won't back fire. You cut off the supply to China, they are going to manufacture the chips themselves. The US is hoping they don't have the creativity and risk taking ability to invent something. Sure, just hope you are right. BTW, you can buy talents and brains to do that for you (and without anyone knowing). And, once they got rid of the dependency, what does the USA have to negotiate with China? On the other hand, China has a lot, like rare metals and earth. Short sighted as always. On long term, China will win.

Fun fact; nearly half of all tech research labs in the US are led by a Chinese expat or naturalized citizen. By the way, Taiwan is Chinese territory and a lot of engineers from Taiwan are in mainland China helping build their tech sector. Lets not forget the Chinese expats heading back to China from the US. The stage is set......
